President-elect Donald Trump will take $1 a year as his presidential salary.
Trump made the revelation on Sunday nights 60 Minutes, telling Lesley Stahl that he didnt even know what the presidential salary is.
I think I have to by law take $1, so I'll take $1 a year. But it's a -- I don't even know what it is. Do you know what the salary is?
Stahl informed him that its $400,000 youre giving up.
No, I'm not going to take the salary. I'm not taking it, he responded.
Trump again said he will release his tax returns at the appropriate time. He refused to do so during the campaign because he is under routine audit by the IRS.
Nobody cares, he told 60 Minutes.
The only one who cares is, you know, you and a few people that asked that question. Obviously, the public didn't care because I won the election very easily. So they don't care. I never thought they did care.
To save more money, AF-1 could be reduced to a 737 for in-states travel. Make the press catch up in commercial flights.
Huge mistake. George Washington was specific in accepting his salary because he knew he was setting examples for the future. He feared that if he did not accept his salary no one after would either and that would keep qualified persons from running for president.
So, if Trumps actually does this, where no one prior to him has, even the Roosevelts, then what does that say for the next president? This is a mistake. He should accept the money and donate $400,000 to the charity of his choice.
But that is where we are going to put in the batting cages for Barron
They should do the job for the love of the country and not profit or gain.
He is exactly right. His tax returns are none of my business. Beating Hillary Clinton was what I cared about with every fiber of my being.
Part of me hopes he never releases them just to make the media’s head explode.
Take the $1 each year in cash...
Frame it...
Sign it...
Then have it auctioned off with proceed for charity (e.g. USO).
Each $1 will bring thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, and will create much good will.
.
Herbert hoover is the only other president to not accept his salary. Others have taken* it and given it to charity and then deducted it from their taxes which technically is taking +the money. ..but it looks good and generous. No fanfare Trumps way.
This is excellent.
If Congress will allocate the money for a White House ballroom, fine. But if they won’t Trump should take the salary and use it to build a ballroom. No more ‘tents’ for State Dinners.
Oh, and Donald Trump - thanks so much for winning this one for all of us. You’re a good man.
Kickbacks and bribes are where the real money is anyway.
I alway thought JFK did not accept a salary also.
BOOKMARK.
Stahl’s interview was 60 minutes of her trying to play “Gotcha”.
Trump & Ivanka & the rest of the family didn’t give her any satisfaction.
I am so very glad that Trump will be President for 8 years-—I already think he will be reelected— & I think the media will find that their 40 +++ years of bias will be treated with interviews that are short & truthful.
Stahl kept trying to flirt with Trump to get him to divulge what he is going to do with ISIS. Telegraphing to the enemy every military move under Obama is another reason why we are still in a morass in the Middle East.
The media just doesn’t get it. They think they are entitled to every tidbit of military planning. Good thing this bunch wasn’t around in WW II. We would still be fighting Germany & Japan.
I am hoping that the press meetings are limited in scope & that the most biased & nasty press gets to sit in the back of the room. Their self-importance needs a trimming.
Loose lips sink ships & the media is clueless.
I’m not sure that is correct. It looks like all presidents have accepted their salaries. Two, Hoover and Kennedy, gave it away according to this article:
Obama campaigned on it .
I like it !
I always understood that JFK gave his to charity Somebody’s gotta look this up.
LOL! Oh my - I completely missed that!
