President-elect Donald Trump is close to announcing a decision for his chief of staff Sunday, and the leading contender is Republican National Committeeman Reince Priebus, according to people familiar the decision.

Priebus was on board against the never-Trumpers.
This is “let's all get on board” time with both houses in control.
I like it. He has the right background and experience and if he passed the “family interview” then he has the right stuff to work with Trump in this role.
This is also a terrific example of what can happen for people who get onboard the Trump Train. Being an asshat has probably cost Ted Cruz a Supreme Court seat for being too pigheaded to do the same.
I would say that a Cruz SCOTUS appointment may be climbing in probability. Problems I see with that is how to get him approved without his own vote. But Lindsey Graham suggested this? That is amazing in and of itself.
Let’s wait and see. Trump has an excellent record for choosing good subordinates to run his businesses. And if Priebus starts boing off the rails, Trump won’t hesitate to chastise or fire him.
Priebus supported Trump once he secured the nomination. I know that there may be people we want better, but to some degree, Priebus may have been crucial to Trump winning. I can live with this.
The Bushbots and Romney folks have their mole.
Priebus got him the presidency.
well clearly President Elect Trump does.
Yes, because CLEARLY President Elect Trump, a successful businessman, does not know how to pick his own staff.
Your concern is noted.
Priebus is a dedicated Republican, a first-class organizer and political thinker.
He is largely responsible for Ryan and Walker and an effective national campaign. His closeness to Ryan is going to be fundamentally important to Trump.
Remember that he had to lead a fractured party w/the establishment hacks. I'm curious to know how much crap he took behind the scenes from these lunatics and their back biting.
My first Trump disappointment.

If Reince became Chief of Staff could Trump make Bannon Head of the RNC? That could be delicious!
I just got a Fox Breaking News text on my phone that said it was so. That's why I jumped to this thread.
Glad he chose RP instead of SB. RP may not be perfect, but a good choice, knows the participants inside & out. Will further bring along the RNC, the NRSC and NRCC . . . and herd them along when the 2018 noise gets cranked up . . . which will be sooner than any of us are ready for. But the D’s have many more Senate seats to defend in 2018 . . . and I believe 10 of them are in states Trump WON.
Bttt
How about “that guy with the weird name”?
An “outsider” would not work as COS. The COS doesn’t have a learning curve to know who is who and who does what. They have to be able to hit the ground running.
Trump better put in some southerners.
