Yes, it is believed the near moon can trigger quake activity.

Then we ought to move it another 50,000 away....

Monitor for a Tsunami and know your elevation, I’d be surprised if the current administration in DC would give you any warning.

The big one was 2010. That was 7.1. So this is still larger.

I wonder if Kerry is still in New Zealand?

Probably going to blame the earthquake based on Anthropogenic global warming "models" and that the United States is not taking in enough Islamic refugees.

I saw it, too. It was a 7.8 on the open-ended Richter scale and only just over 14 miles beneath the surface. I'm afraid that the damage to the Christchurch area is going to be potentially huge.

Isn’t John Kerry still there? Maybe it was caused by too much BS.

I remember the last one, a planet wide call for anyone in the concrete business to go there and rebuild. And they did, probably built stronger to ride this one out for the most part. Probably the best place on earth right now beauty, climate, scenery, the demographics etc, except for their earthquakes.

The comments indicate that’s an old clip, but not this quake. But, 6’5” tsunami reported in one location.

Sorry, that should be “The comments indicate that’s an old clip; not this quake.”

To: waus; DieHard the Hunter; Kathy in Alaska

DieHard the Hunter lives in New Zealand and he said he felt it up in the hill area where he lives. A good 15 second tremor, and they never feel them. There are tsunamis on the coast. He hasn’t any report of damage or injuries as of yet, though.

He says:
“Is anybody other than me feeling an earthquake right now? Definitely a shaking happening — I am watching my glass of tonic water move around.
Later: 51 separate quakes so far. Everyone I know seems to be OK, so far. I’m way up in the hills, so safe from tsunamis. But we felt it up here, and that’s really unusual. This was big.
Tsunamis happening near Wellington, both islands — which is no joke at all...
But we’re alright for the moment — thanks for asking.”
