A feud in one neighborhood has reached a boiling point, after one man bought a billboard to pressure a registered sex offender to move in Robinwood, Alabama.

Jeb Lessley had the billboard made at a local business for $160. It shows Raymond Martin's mugshot and lists his address and charges, including second-degree rape and sodomy for a 2013 conviction involving an underage girl.

I have NEVER heard that sex offenders have the lowest recidivism rate going for crime. I’ve always heard it was the highest.

My sample size is one, but our neighborhood offender (violently raped underage girl) is a con man. He is on disability despite being able to drive around and try to scam people. Can't drive a truck though (his only actual career) and his disability is essentially invisible (I won't give details).

When I first met him walking past his house I had no idea of his status and gave him the benefit of the doubt like everyone else. At the time he was sitting outside with his girlfriend and her daughter, and the whole scene seemed very strange. I didn't think much of it but never walked past his house again, although he would later show up at my house uninvited and unannounced. At that point I had heard from someone else that he was on the registry. I didn't mention and he never mentioned it, instead he just talking about his invisible disability. But I am done with him, and do not expect to see him again.

A “victim” can falsely accuse someone of having been “violated” and it becomes a “he said/she said” accusation. A judge then determines who is the most believable. Judges DO MAKE errors in their decisions and hence, someone can, and does become labeled as a sex offender even they may be completely innocent. It does happen.

When I was in Jr High, there was a 20 yr old janitor who preyed on 7th and 8th grade girls at school. He and his slimy friends would show up at the skating rink on Friday nights. I knew a few girls who fell for this guy.

A few years later, (He would have been 23-24 yrs old) I found out that he was with an 8th grader and got her pregnant. I used to see them together. He walked her home from school, past my house.

It never occurred to anyone to tell a teacher or parent about it.
