I grew up believing that good men would want a woman who was not nuts, was not needy and clingy, had her own friends and hobbies so that the man could enjoy his own as well, and to have a career that was respected.

Wish I knew back then that was all a crock lol!

It sounds terrible...but we wouldn't have cared about the kids' "feelings" so much. It did them no favors. We see that now. We really thought it was the right thing to do. In a large part, perhaps it was. However, did we raise part of a generation who needed validation at every turn? Or, despite success, did it seem empty without "peer" approval?

WW1 and WW2 sucked, but it sure created some people with character, strength, and fortitude.

Interesting. All the women I know who have remained married are certifiably nuts. Their husbands cater to their whims. They are drama queens.

Well....I'm sorry for your experiences, but there are MANY women who are still married after 25 years (to same spouse) who are not drama queens.

Husbands and wives together will assure you that it's not a piece of cake. YMMV......To. Be. Sure.

Also, PRAYERS made a big difference. My husband and I started praying together *daily* about 3 years ago...just before our 25th anniversary. It has changed our life from "ok" to "we are in this all together".

Gone in to commercial construction instead of residential.
Earning potential with my knowledge would have at lest tripled my earnings capacity.

There are sins of commission and sins of omission

Both are sins. "Sin" is from a Greek word used in Archery meaning "to miss the mark (target)".

When we sin, we "miss the target".

What is the target?

“Master, what are we to consider the Law’s greatest commandment?”

Jesus answered him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind’. This is the first and great commandment. And there is a second like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself’. The whole of the Law and the Prophets depends on these two commandments.”

Matthew 22:36-40

I would have ignored my parents old world ranting and gone to school or joined the service.
I would have been more patient with my kiddos! (but they seem no worse for it, and they actually like me)
I would have never stopped running. It’s hard to start up again.
But I would have still married my old man and we have had a great life. Can’t complain!!!

Rascal Flatts - “Bless The Broken Road”

Romans 8:28-30
J.B. Phillips New Testament

Moreover we know that to those who love God, who are called according to his plan, everything that happens fits into a pattern for good. God, in his foreknowledge, chose them to bear the family likeness of his Son, that he might be the eldest of a family of many brothers. He chose them long ago; when the time came he called them, he made them righteous in his sight, and then lifted them to the splendor of life as his own sons.

“Bless The Broken Road”
(originally by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band)

I set out on a narrow way many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn’t see how every sign pointed straight to you

[Chorus:]
Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like Northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
(Yes He did)

I think about the years I spent just passing through
I’d like to have the time I lost and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You’ve been there you understand
It’s all part of a grander plan that is coming true.

Yeah.

Now I’m just rolling home
Into my lover’s arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you.

That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you.

We share the same observation. The vast majority of my male friends are married to women who cause drama, drink too much, overspend, etc yet the guys just walk on eggshells. Maybe because divorce is too expensive for them?

It’s one of life’s great mysteries!

We tend to do that when things are slightly less well known.

No life is truly without its regrets and sometimes rewards.

Since you candidly shared your experience I’ll let you know mine:

I grew up in an abusive household. I chose not to get involved with anyone until I was sure I would not perpetuate the same sort of abuse. The long and short of it, I found a great lady in my late 30’s. I have to believe that God had a plan for me, it might not have been as easy as some folks, but I am grateful for what I and we have.

I guess I’m trying to say, you can feel bitter, but try not to lose sight of the good things too.

I apologize for my uncharacteristic serious answer.
