California and Trump are on a collision course over immigrants here illegally
The Los Angeles Times ^ | November 12th, 2016 | Makeda Easter and Dakota SmithContact Reporter

California is quickly becoming a battleground for immigration policy as a cross-section of leaders across the state vowed to fight any plans by President-elect Donald Trump to deport thousands of people in the U.S. illegally.

Trump said during the presidential campaign that he’ll build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and deport people in the country illegally. He is expected to unwind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, an initiative by President Obama that protects immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children.

California has some of the nation’s most liberal policies when it comes to handling immigrants here illegally. The state has allowed them to get driver’s licenses, health coverage for children and in-state tuition. Institutions like churches also support immigrants.

But the Golden State could be on a collision course with Trump if he pushes hard-line immigration policies enthusiastically backed by many of his supporters.

The California problem will, within ten years, dominate our politics.

Either we repossess it by force, we partition it, or we let it go.

I think partition is the best solution, but, like all state admission questions since 1820, if we don’t balance the Senate it won’t happen.

Hey, Jim Robinson, myself and many other good Freepers live in CA.

Thanks for mentioning that. This is not an easy place to be when we are wished dead and buried by our own Freepers. Some of us here in California made thousands of phonecalls to Michigan and Florida to GOTV. Couldn't have done that from the bottom of the Pacific.

If California wants to keep the illegals let them pay for them. I don't want one of my tax dollars paying for an illegal invader. We'll see how fast they change their tune when they have to pay billions a year for their illegals. Suckers.

Brace yourself for the endless sob stories of illegals facing deportation, particularly the ones who were brought over here as infants and have lived her their entire law-abiding, high-achieving lives.

Stories about the drunk-driving, rapists and murdering illegals facing deportation? Not so much.

This is where the bully pulpit comes in. Trump will invite Angels Moms to the White House and humiliate Dems & media.

Those of us who lived in California before 1990 remember how vibrant it was economically before the illegal alien floodgates opened up, and the Democrats took over the entire state government.

From the article, “The state vowed to fight any plans by President-elect Donald Trump to deport thousands of people in the U.S. illegally.”

Typical LA Times BS. There are millions not thousands of people in the U.S. illegally. Even liberals have been saying 10 million since the 1980s. The border patrol estimates somewhere between 20 and 40 million. It is most likely more than 40 million. A person's perception of this is skewed depending on where they live. It is documented that a million people and typically more enter illegally every year, and only a fraction are sent back.

Even during the Obama years 2.5 million were deported. In the eight years during GW Bush's time in office 2 million were deported. In the last couple years Obama has tied the hands of the border patrol and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement so there is now a huge backlog of people who have been turned loose including violent criminals in many cases and even more who have been apprehended repeatedly driving drunk with no insurance. Obama and the Democrats were making a transparent attempt to spike voter fraud to influence the election by not sending millions of people back.

Trump won because the Democrats started believing their own polls and did not cheat enough. So even millions of illegal immigrants who voted and millions of fraudulent absentee ballots from dead people, and who knows how many votes from people the Democrats bussed from one battle ground state to another to vote multiple times... it wasn't enough to steal the election. The game was rigged... just not enough to overcome large majority. The Democrats underestimated the margin of cheating necessary. Hopefully Trump and the Republican Senate and House can finally investigate and put an end to this crap.

If California wants to tax its citizens to support their guests, that’s their call. But no more federal funds.
Trump can do this through his cabinet appointments, backed by Congress. Make America great again. To `ell with Mexifornia.
Bring back the Golden state.

“the wall WILL be built”

And “DACA” negated.
And Sanctuary cities defunded.
And highway funds denied to states that issue drivers license to illegals.
And Medicare matching funds denied to states that service illegals.
And Student Loan funds denied to institutions that allow illegals.
And Law Enforcement funds denied to states that do not cooperate with immigration law.

I could go on...

Guarantee Ca would be screaming for reentry within a few minutes

The rest of the Union cannot tolerate California the way it is, or rather as what it will soon become.

It's too big, it has control of major Pacific ports, and it controls manufacturing decisions because of market size.

They will, when the radical successor to Jerry Brown gets elected, start their own foreign policy initiatives towards China and Latin America.

The US MUST get control of the situation before war is required.

Immigrants are here legally, there are many derogatory phrases for use, for those here illegally. The kindest is to call them Illegal Aliens.

Those here illegally, should never be called immigrant.

Just enforcing the existing laws will cause a sea change. Trump doesn’t need Congress to do this

That's what's so amazing about this whole situation.

Everybody in Congress talks like there's a crisis, that we need "immigration reform" via new laws, when the people's laws, passed already by the people's representatives and supported by large majorities are perfectly adequate.

And there's no shortage of boxcars. To show that I am a compassionate conservative, I'm even willing to spring for hay and water IN the damn boxcars on the ride to Mexico.

too much of the lifestyle Californians have come to enjoy depends on below-market illegal labor

They should check out how life in Johannesburg is these days.

It is very sad, because I do remember the California that elected Ronald Reagan to be her Governor twice. And the California who passed proposition 13 in an attempt to lower taxes and roll back its rapidly expanding government. The problem is that many of the liberals responsible for ruining California moved to Oregon and Washington and are now trashing our states as well.

CA can bluster all they want, but they cannot stop the Feds from implementing immigration policy as they see fit.

Additionally, Trump can cut off all Federal funding to Californicate until they eagerly cooperate with Federal immigration authorities.
