Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump -- who said he has a concealed carry permit -- called for the expansion of gun rights Friday, including making those permits applicable nationwide. In a position paper published on his website Friday afternoon, Trump called for the elimination of gun and magazine bans, labeling them a "total failure."
"Law-abiding people should be allowed to own the firearm of their choice. The government has no business dictating what types of firearms good, honest people are allowed to own," Trump wrote.
It's not a departure from what he's said on the trail this year, though it does mark a shift from a position he took in his 2000 book "The America We Deserve," where Trump stated that he generally opposes gun control but that he supported a ban on assault weapons and a longer waiting period to get a gun.
"Opponents of gun rights try to come up with scary sounding phrases like 'assault weapons', 'military-style weapons' and 'high capacity magazines' to confuse people," Trump wrote Friday. "What theyre really talking about are popular semi-automatic rifles and standard magazines that are owned by tens of millions of Americans."

It’s already against the law for shooting somebody for reasons past self defense as is pointing a gun at somebody and even just brandishing a weapon.
Disagree. Driving is a right. Regulating it doesn’t make it any less so.
“If we can do that for driving — which is a privilege, not a right — then surely we can do that for concealed carry, which is a right, not a privilege,” Trump said.
\O/
FINALLY!!!
To the best of my knowledge, North Carolina and Tennessee already have laws recognizing the other’s permit.
What’s the basis for national driver license reciprocity?
Is it a law, or is it based on Federal highway funding, free consent of all states, or something else?
Anybody know?
Have to pinch myself......it just keeps getting better.
Even the Great Reagan misunderstood the 2A, enacting the 1986 machine gun ban.
Shoulda bought several, actually :-\
It wouldn't be an expansion of gun rights, it would be an acknowledgement of our Constitutional right from the 2nd Amendment that "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed".
IMHO, CC is a state, not Federal issue.
However, thank you Mr. Trump for that last sentence: “What theyre really talking about are popular semi-automatic rifles and standard magazines that are owned by tens of millions of Americans.”
Finally! Some sanity. Guess my assault weapons (hammer, chain saw and large Phillips screwdriver) are gonna be safe under a Trump Administration.
Think of all the boating accidents this will prevent!
Gun ownership in this country is what has kept us free. There should be no question the demodummies, plus the U.N., have been so dead set on trying to eliminate our right to gun ownership. The Japanese knew that way back during WWII that we were (and still are) a strong nation when there was/is a gun behind every blade of grass. An armed society is what we must remain, we can all thank Donald Trump for helping to expand our rights to gun ownership.
PLEASE SOMEONE STOP ALL THIS DAMN WINNING. I’M SICK OF IT!
‘zackly.
Fantastic!
Great idea. Might make some of these violent protesters think twice about smashing my business window or getting out in the street so I can’t get to work.
Wonderful sign.
Yes!!!
It is time to enforce the Full Faith and Credit clause of the Constitution on our side for a change. If the GOP members in Congress agree with this they could get it done quickly and quietly to avoid all kinds of silly sideshow debates. Make it quick, simple, short and sweet: “A CCW permit issued in any State or Territory shall be valid in every State and Territory, which use of shall be governed only by those terms established by the issuing State or Territory, except where such terms conflict with federal law”. Simple. Get ‘er done.
Sweet. I wish some “Never Trump” conservative would remind me again why we should have wanted President Hillary Clinton at this point.
BOOM! Prince Andrew of Cuomo, Game Over...
