As someone who started in political communications by fighting the Clintons way back in 1992, I'll be forever grateful for every single person who voted for Donald Trump in 2016. It matters not to me whether they were early adapting, pedal to the metal Trumpers -- or lukewarm reluctant Trumpers -- or even late-converting Never Trumpers. Each vote counted as one, and Trump needed almost all of them to once and for all rid us of the Clinton machine.
Amen and pass the plate!
Moreover, the future of the Supreme Court, not to mention the nation, is radically more optimistic today, as are the prospects of securing the border, and of ridding us of the cancer of ObamaCare. This is all very good.
For the record, I fit into category B in the scenario above, not joining the Never Trump movement (though I was tempted twice), while never claiming that Trump could not win. I always maintained that Hillary Clinton was capable of losing to anyone, often stating that the IBD/TIPP poll was worth watching, and that the LA Times Daybreak poll's new paradigm was very interesting as well.
And let's be honest, Hillary Clinton losing is precisely what happened, and the numbers back this up. While some were predicting this big tidal wave of 70 million plus Trump supporters, swelling total turnout to something like 140 million voters, that is not at all what took place. Not even close.
So before I get to some effusive praise of Trump, consider this:

Trump praise is coming, I promise, but first some more hard math:
Trump underperformed Richard Burr in NC, Marco Rubio in Florida, Ron Johnson in Wisconsin, Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania, and Johnny Isakson in Georgia. Trump way underpolled anti-Trumper Rob Portman in Ohio, winning Ohio by 9 (which is amazing), while Portman won by almost twice that.
Wisconsin's Republican machine of Scott Walker, Paul Ryan, Johnson, and even Reince Preibus was instrumental in Trump winning Wisky. Trump's most gushing comments in his victory speech were in fact reserved for Preibus. It was stunning. So much for being a wrecking ball to the establishment.
So what does all this tell us? First, it tells us that Trump needed the normal Republican turnout as much as normal Republicans needed Trump. This is not a bad thing, and is exactly what those of us in the "reluctant Trump" camp always maintained. It was Trump's propensity to run harder against his own party than against Hillary, that bothered us in the first place. Our fates were always tied together, as they always are in general elections. It is what it is.
Trump's continued attacks on Ryan, Ted Cruz, and John Kasich, long after the primaries ended, was just as morally reprehensible as what Mitch McConnell, Haley Barbour, and Thad Cochran pulled in Mississippi against Chris McDaniel. And it had the possibility of being far more devastating, given that it happened in the general election for president.

This article is garbage.
The GOP establishment bailed on Trump when the locker room tape was released. Their support before that had been lukewarm at best.
The greasy little weasels scampered back aboard when it became obvious that the voters weren't abandoning Trump.
To now claim that they were a pillar of support and instrumental in Trump's victory is ridiculous. They did everything they could to torpedo Trump's campaign while still maintaining their own political fortunes with voters.

This is such horse chit. Apparently now Ole "C" thinks the GOP Establishment won the White House and the Senate and House are powerful Legislative bodies after they castrated themselves. I would suggest that they go (____) themselves, but for a eunuch, that is pretty much impossible.
By allowing Obama and Hillary to continue lawlessness while funding every one of their unconstitutional actions, the GOP Establishment has no legitimacy or moral authority. They have set the precedent that the Bureaucracy is all powerful as they are relegated to writing Tax Law to "PRIVILEGE" their lobbyists and Special Interests. With both Houses of Congress, if they fail to Pass TRUMP's Tax Plan, they will have two years before they are voted out of Office. The overwhelming silent majority that trounced Obama and Clinton on Tuesday will not tolerate a "Lyin" Ryan and Mitch McCommunist coup of the Trump Presidency.
Otherwise, the Bureaucracy has all the power in enforcing Immigration, penalizing Sanctuary Cities, Deporting illegals, freeing up energy by hamstringing the EPA, end Common Core and return power to the States and local School Boards, as well as modifying Treaties such as NAFTA and TPA. The Congress can sit down and STFU or be steamrolled. The only power they now share with the President is the Power to Tax as they write the Tax Law. But if they do not give Trump the Budget he demands (like Obama who threatened to shut down the government) and the Tax Law they presented, then the Congress will not get anything Passed, Trump will have complete Power under any CR to fund whatever he pleases and the GOP Establishment can go mulct themselves.

I’m not believing the GOP low turnout numbers. I think they’re hiding the absolutely massive amount of cheating for Hillary. We’ve NEVER seen event turnouts like Trump got, and Hillary literally couldn’t get anyone to go see her. And now she not only wins the popular vote, but the overall turnout was low too?

C. Edmund Wright is full of manure. I've seen many of his comments on Disqus comment sections on many other websites that resembled the most personal, despicable, childish and stupid attacks against Trump and his supporters from liberals as there are. He's a troll. I used to read and respect his stuff, but not after this election. I tried to engage debates with him, challenging him to offer any quotes to back up his outrageous accusations against Trump and he never responded. I'm surprised American Thinker has stooped so low....

Let's see now. How big were the political rallys of those who "outperformed" Trump? I thought so.
Some good points in the article. I voted for Trump, but it was with enormous reluctance, simply because I didn’t want Hillary to win. And of course, I was going to vote all along for the other GOP candidates down-ticket, as apparently a lot of other people did - notice the difference in the votes for the presidential slot and those much larger votes for GOP senators, etc. Although as Wright points out, the last two weeks of Trump’s campaign were what his campaign should have been all along - he hadn’t lost the glitz, but actually had substantive ideas and was not attacking fellow Republicans but really going after Hillary (on the basis of ideas and her verifiably corrupt past, not her looks). Maybe he would have had that landslide if he had been like this from the start.
That said, what he was best at in his past pre-presidential life was not business, but showmanship and creating and selling his brand. And actually that showmanship was probably what attracted a lot of voters who normally wouldn’t have bothered to turn out no matter how good his ideas were, simply because they really didn’t care what politicians said anymore. But his approach was so off the wall that while it probably turned off some voters, it woke up others and got them out there to vote.
Hillary is horrible at showmanship, but she had the entire press behind her to make up for it. Even so, Trump managed to get his brand out there and make it stand out. And that’s obviously what was necessary in this race and what he brought to it!
