They successfully voted to secede from New York City in the same election that began Giuliani’s first term. If that hadn’t coincided they would have left, I believe.

Many of the Marlboro man commercials were shot on Staten Island. Up until after WW II over half the fresh vegetables consumed in NYC were grown on Staten Island.
