We should assign 1 elector for each county in the US. That would make it a little more fair!

That is what I was thinking!

Such a system would have to account for population differences, maybe. Or not—one elector per county would negate the effect of vote fraud, by making it impossible to manufacture votes to negate those of neighboring counties.

FWIW, in practical terms that would be impossible without an Amendment. Per the Constitution:

“Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress...”

A state would have to have the same number of counties / parishes (Louisiana) as “Senators and Representatives” before they could decide to give themselves one elector per county. And then that would be subject to change in ten years anyway upon the results of a new Census.
