The White House on Monday stressed its belief that James Comey is not trying to influence the outcome of the presidential election after the FBI director informed Congress this weekend he won’t change his recommendation to not charge Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server while secretary of State.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the tumultuous events of the past 10 days haven't changed President Obama’s confidence in Comey's "ability to lead the FBI," saying he is “a man of integrity and a man of principle."
ADVERTISEMENT “The president is entirely confident that Director Comey is not using his authority to advantage a particular political candidate or a particular political party,” Earnest told reporters aboard Air Force One.

Ultimately the truth will be known, but to your point I wonder to what extent is Comey doing what he has to do to remain in control at the FBI. If he were fired, it seems likely McCabe would be appointed as interim Director, and he very likely would just shut everything down, including the investigation into CGI.
We don’t know all the facts.

Earnest did reiterate that President Barack Obama thinks Comey is a man of “integrity” who didn’t do anything to “intentionally” influence the impending election when he offered Congress sketchy details about a new line of inquiry into the scandal over Clinton’s use of a private email server at the State Department.
Then I’ll be darned if I can figure out what he’s doing then.
“You can keep your doctor, and your plan, and save $2500 while you’re at it! .....And by the way, Comey is NOT trying to rig this election!”

I think that requires the confidence of the field agents and investigators, not the White House. And I don’t think Comey has that.
1. An unnoticed side effect of Comey ruling in favor of Hillary: Abedin is cleared of wrongdoing,
and she can now go back to working for hillary. That is, if Comey had found something wrong with Weiner’s laptop, Abedin
could have lost her high security status.
2. But now, Abedin can keep her high security clearance and go back to work for Hillary as if nothing happened.
3. My point is this: President Hillary would have had a hard time
running the government without Abedin at her side.
[At this point, I would honestly trust the Kremlin before this White House.]
