An elderly Dane accused of being involved in the mass murder of Jews in Belarus during World War II will not be prosecuted, Danish authorities said Friday, saying they have "not found evidence he committed or took part in the killings."
The probe had been "very thorough" but evidence against 91-year-old Helmuth Leif Rasmussen was "limited," chief prosecutor Steen Bechmann Jacobsen said.
"To be prosecuted for participation in mass killings requires a closer connection to the crime itself. You do not prosecute a known burglar for lots of burglaries in a neighborhood simply because he was in the area at the time of break-ins. You need evidence," he told The Associated Press.

I truly think it’s time to drop these trials——if anyone is still around.
.
Yeah.
German NAZIs were the only bad guys ever, dontchaknow?
Hitler was the only monster ever.
Wonder how many KGB and gulag commanders are still getting away with murder. But commies are OK. No big deal.
I truly think its time to drop these trialsif anyone is still around. ..................................... I’m sure we can find a few HY or Jungfolk still around to keep it going. When do get to the Russian atrocities or are we just letting them off the hook?

I don’t think many people are still around. However, I remember that the nazis even took 90-year-old people from old folks’ homes to be gassed. (Why, I don’t know; the old people couldn’t reproduce any longer and would have died shortly anyway.)
But, justice would be to show the nazis the same mercy (or lack thereof) they showed everyone else.
Unfortunately, the Danes had a lot to be ashamed of in WWII.
They were similar to the Vichy French with only a language difference. Look it up!
at this point anyone that participated and still alive would of been a kid or are going to die before you ever got to trial. its been 71 years since the end of world war 2 at this point its up to god and his plans not mortal justice.

he was only 91, still a spring chicken
I think you need to check your facts. The Danes were noted for their rescue of Jews.
Indeed, most of Denmark’s Jews got away to Sweden. The few who didn’t were sent to Theresienstadt, a transit camp in Czechoslovakia, and most of those survived.
Not so, the Danish home guard was set up post WWII to ensure that if the army surrendered, they would keep fighting, kind of along the Swiss model.
Also while the Danes did save almost all the Jews, it was actually due to a SS guy who sabotaged the rounds up, tipping of the resistance and giving the order that if Jews did not answer to door they were not to break it down.
Most of the Jews were smuggled to Sweden.
When the round up yielded virtually no Jews, (one church full waiting for transport to Sweden) this same SS officer had the brass balls to send a notice saying “Denmark was Jew Free.” to Himmler. When Eichmann complained he said, well he thought it did not matter how they were to be gotten out of the country.
He survived. Gives one pause, as a lot of the ones who claim they would be killed if they did not pan out, at least for a senior SS guy.
As for the 91 year old, well if he was actually guilty of war crimes he should be punished, I do not think there is any statute of limitations on murder. The real issue is how does one establish that beyond a reasonable degree? After 71 years it is kind of hard to build a reliable case.
If he was involved in anti-partisan warfare, well that was just brutal on both sides, the partisans were not exactly boy scouts and the one chap I knew who was involved in that in Belorussia in 44 had no guilt for his actions.
WOW! Great news. About time we see some common sense in these investigations.
There should be NO STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS on GENOCIDE.
We have the Rwanda slaughter, the Khmer Rouge, the Red Chinese, the No. Koreans, the Viet Cong atrocities en mass, ISIS, Boko Harum, and smaller ethnic genocidal groups still active.
As a member of a Holocaust (European family) devastated family, and the first journalist to testify before Congress on the Khmer Rouge plans for political genocide in Cambodia (July 1974 and April 1975), I say, let’s track down and try these bastards until the end of time.
I owe it to my Jewish family and any Christians who tried to save them, to my So. Vietnamese friends and to my Cambodian friends, among others.
NEVER FORGET!
Not only were they smuggled out of Denmark, when they returned to Denmark, they returned to their homes and businesses. The Danish government, unlike those in the remainder of occupied Europe, did not seize their property for unpaid taxes. The Danish citizens looked after the houses and stores of the Jewish Danes that had left the country. Denmark was the only country in Europe, that I am aware of,that this happened. The returning Jews in other countries returned to nothing.
