THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

COLE PORTER

ANYTHING GOES

HARPERS BIZARRE: “ANYTHING GOES”

This 1967 recording came from a Warner Brothers middle-of-the-road studio cover band, which got a small hit out of it. In 1970 William Friedkin directed “The Boys in the Band,” a forgettable film based on the forgettable Broadway play about homosexual angst after Stonewall and before AIDS. He used this recording as a theme, which gave it a new lease on life.
