absolutely cannot be forced to resign under the post Watergate statute that gives him 10 term untouchable by the president. He may resign but it will be on his own.

Not true. He is no longer an at-will employee, but the law allows that president may remove a Director with cause.
Bill Clinton dismissed William Sessions halfway through his term on charges that Sessions misused official perks; among other things Sessions used FBI aircraft for personal trips.
