'The law's working as designed. . . However, it could work better. . . we need a larger mandate penalty.'
Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber joined CNN on Wednesday morning to say the best way to fix the failing health-care law he engineered would be to increase the penalty.
A recent study found that Obamacare insurance plans will cost many Americans about 22 percent more next year. For some like those in Phoenix, Arizona the cost is much worse, about a 145 percent increase. Since the news broke earlier this week, the Obama administration has frantically been trying to spin the news.

More commonly called "welfare."
A word of encouragement: your position that “we have to take care of everyone” has enormous political support, and, although it was misused by the Democrats to destroy the existing, not too bad set of arrangements, and will now cause enormous damage, the GOP has no coherent set of policies to enact the popular will on this issue.
soon they will imprison those who dare rise against his gayness commie in chief..and if they are real bad obamma mamba jamma lenin khomeini will visit their cell with his buttdy Reggie...
Anyone wonder how, on top of the whole deal being Constitutional, it can be Constitutional to steal the penalty from one’s return, if they owe you, even though they can’t force you to pay it if you owe them money?
One was the supreme court ruling that said the obamacare "tax/penalty" was constitutional. Since the government can now impose a penalty for not buying a product, and it controls the amount of the penalty and the cost of the product, the citizens are screwed.
The only way out of this is to leave the country and renounce your citizenship. Hold on there. The State Department levies a "fee" of $2,350 to release you from your obligations as a citizen. It was recently increased from $450. The increase was justified by claiming that demand for the service had jumped. So if demand increases from a trickle to a flood what is to stop the government from increasing the fee to $10,000 or $100,000 or $1,000,000?
Unless both of these measure are not just capped but struck down completely the route to slavery is clear.
Amazing that this disgraced man can even show his face.
It goes back much farther than that, IMO. The 16th Amendment (...power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived...) is naked slavery.
A 100% tax rate is by definition, involuntary servitude. All you earn by the fruits of your labor is seized. Therefore, any lesser percentage is merely a matter of degree.

I have said much the same for years. It is common sense.
In the private marketplace, if you make too much money to get a subsidy, a family of four might be paying over 10K a year for a crappy policy with a deductible of 10K or more. So they’re roughly out of pocket 20K before they see a nickel of benefits.
What are they going to make the tax? 25K a year? (SCOTUS ruled it was a tax, not a penalty, so we can’t let these weasels get away with the misnomer).
At a certain breaking point, people will purposely reduce their income so they can qualify for subsidies. They’ll have much more money left in their pockets if you do.
Or you will just have non-compliance. They won’t buy a policy nor pay the penalty. What’s the IRS going to do if millions decide not to comply?
Duh. The only reason to go through an exchange is to get the subsidies. People who make too much for a subsidy or who have work based health insurance don't bother with the screwed up exchanges.
We do provide care for everyone. No one seeking care is turned away from a hospital.
Don’t make the mistake of equating health “care” to health “insurance”. They are two different animals.
Prescription drug prices also have to be addressed.
People want free stuff. They cannot have it.
The current "Health Insurance" system has evolved into a giant cost-shifting machine that gives people the illusion that they can have free medical care. Along the way, the predatory and sociopathic system operators rake off huge percentage of the money as they stick somebody else with the bill.
"Somebody else" turns out to be "everybody else".
"But we have to take care of others" is a cover story used by the predators to delay and confuse opposition.
They take ruthless advantage of decent people with altruistic motivations and use them to conceal predation.
We had a better system in times past. We need to scrap the current one.
