'The law's working as designed. . . However, it could work better. . . we need a larger mandate penalty.'
Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber joined CNN on Wednesday morning to say the best way to fix the failing health-care law he engineered would be to increase the penalty.
A recent study found that Obamacare insurance plans will cost many Americans about 22 percent more next year. For some like those in Phoenix, Arizona the cost is much worse, about a 145 percent increase. Since the news broke earlier this week, the Obama administration has frantically been trying to spin the news.

Please keep in mind that citizens can have government healthcare if they want it. But in the case of unconstitutional federal Obamacare, the corrupt Washington cartel wrongly ignored that the Constitution does not say yes or no to things like government healthcare. What the Founding States had intended for the Constitution to indicate about healthcare, and many other things that the states have never amended the Constitution to expressly address, is the following.
The Founding States had made the 10th Amendment to clarify that the Constitutions silence about issues like healthcare means that the states, not the federal government, automatically and uniquely have the constitutional authority to regulate, tax and spend for things like INTRAstate healthcare.
In fact, using broad language, previous generations of state sovereignty-respecting justices had clarified limits on the feds power to regulate, tax and spend as follows. This is evidenced by the excerpts from Supreme Court case opinions below.
Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States. Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]. United States v. Butler, 1936.
With the excerpts above in mind, consider that lawless Obamas state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices wrongly ignored that previous generations of state sovereignty-respecting justices had clarified that the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate, tax and spend in the name of INTRAstate healthcare.
From related threads
Considering the Obamacare insurance mandate for example, note the third entry in the list below from Paul v. Virginia. In that case, justices had clarified that regulating insurance is not within the scope of Congresss Commerce Clause powers (1.8.3), regardless if the parties negotiating the insurance policy are domiciled in different states.
"State inspection laws, health laws, and laws for regulating the internal commerce of a State, and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c. are not within the power granted to Congress. [emphases added]" - Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
"Inspection laws, quarantine laws, health laws of every description [emphasis added], as well as laws for regulating the internal commerce of a state and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c., are component parts of this mass." -Justice Barbour, New York v. Miln., 1837.
"4. The issuing of a policy of insurance is not a transaction of commerce within the meaning of the latter of the two clauses, even though the parties be domiciled in different States, but is a simple contract [emphasis added] of indemnity against loss." - Paul v. Virginia, 1869. (The corrupt feds have no Commerce Clause (1.8.3) power to regulate insurance.)
"Direct control of medical practice in the states is obviously [emphases added] beyond the power of Congress." - Linder v. United States, 1925.
So what unconstitutional Obamacare actually did was to show how corrupt all three branches of the unconstitutionally big federal government are, the feds wrongly not securing the required consent of the Constitutions Article V state supermajority before establishing Obamacare.
Remember in November !
Patriots need to support Trump / Pence by also electing a new, state sovereignty-respecting Congress that will not only work within its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers to support Trumps vision for making America great again for everybody, but will also put a stop to unconstitutonal federal taxes and likewise unconstitutional inteference in state affairs as evidenced by unconstitutional Obamacare.
Again, the states have always had the 10th Amendment-protected state power to establish their own healthcare programs, depending on what the legal majority voters of a given state want.
Note that such a Congress will also probably be willing to fire state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices.
Soviet style central planning always fails
The floggings will continue until morale improves.
Take Gruber and Zeke Emanuel and put them in stocks on Pennsylvania Avenue so the citizens can all pi$$ on both them!
Funny how American government’s plans always, always, always involve them getting more of the taxpayers’ money.
I’ve never watched Seth Meyers (?) and never will again, but he dedicated his monologue to attacking Trump and lecturing on why ZEROcare only affects those who opt to purchase it, and if their premium goes up, so does their subsidy.
Most of us, you see, have employer paid insurance or Medicare and are not affected at all by the upcoming hikes.
Rubbish!
When somebody keeps hitting you with a bigger hammer, the important thing is to force them to stop. It does not need to be any more complicated than that.
"Obamacare" must be immediately and completely repealed.
If you really want follow-on measures you could also repeal the Drug Re-importation Acts and the price-fixing that they enable. Prescription medicines that are made in America and retail for $300 per unit here are exported and can be purchased in Europe and Asia for $20-$60 per unit. And many such items are non-prescription over there. But you are not allowed to bring them back into this country. That's a racket that must be stopped.
Existing Anti-Trust laws apply to the entire Health Care Industry. They must be enforced. And executives who violate those laws must be jailed.
Pricing for medical procedures must be posted before service and must be the same price for everybody. That is actually what existing "Consumer Protection" laws require. Let's enforce them.
Insurance companies commonly get 50% or greater discounts on billing, simply by stalling the providers for payment. Such discounts are not available to patients who pay cash. This is insane - and also illegal discriminatory pricing.
Well I disagree.
I understand I am in the minority on this issue. I thank the site operator for not banishing me, for saying so. I completely agree with everything the GOP stands for, and I am extremely supportive of every single issue which Donald Trump has stood for.
Except this one. I think we need to simply provide care, to everyone.
The dems had the right idea on this. It is not a good system, but we had none.
None.
Again I understand I am stating a minority opinion here on FR, and I appreciate the site owner’s not zotting me so far, for saying my opinion.
He does not agree with me. I will shut up now, and not risk what that means. I have said my opinion. I will now not say more.
But we have done NOTHING.
I am sure that most of cannot really say what we feel when we read this.
I would suggest a very large penalty for Jonathon Gruber...
I was thinking something a bit more abrupt.
***It is not a good system, but we had none.***
Bullcr*p
The system we had was set up to benefit the insurance companies because it was illegal to buy insurance across state lines. Just making all insurance competitive and legal for purchase anywhere would go a long way to making insurance companies have to treat customers much better and with lower rates.
“I think we need to simply provide care, to everyone.”
I will go one better. I think we need to simply insist that everyone be healthy and never need care.
Both of our proposals are unworkable for the same reason.
Oh yes, it’s time for big penalties.
Big damn penalties that won’t soon be forgotten.
But not against us.
So they’ll be wanting more from young families’ $11 per hr pay. Double the stupid.

What is wrong with flamberge's suggestions?
What was so terribly wrong with health care back in the '60's (beyond, perhaps, some poor people not knowing where to go for financial help, which was then relatively inexpensive for charities and so on to give)?
I'll add 4 more suggestion: Graduate a lot more doctors, effect reasonable tort reform, greatly expand MSA's, and somehow get the providers to "get with it" regarding medical records. My Dad was recently first in the local hospital's ER, and then admitted for continued treatment & tests. I went through the "interview" process of supplying my Dad's medical history FOUR times. WTF?!! For one thing, once the hospital had that history the 1st time, do they not have networked computers? Even worse, I had supplied the name & office of my Dad's PCP, who of course has far better / more detailed information. Once I give permission for my Dr. to release my Dad's information (I have POA for Health for my Dad), why in God's name should it take more than 2 minutes for the hospital to obtain my Dad's full records?
I almost felt like "Bones" in Star Trek 4, disparaging the medieval records technology (only slightly countered by the cool Trek-like thermometer they could just wave over my Dad's forehead.)
Most of us, you see, have employer paid insurance or Medicare and are not affected at all by the upcoming hikes.
Meyers is an idiot. Where does he think those subsidies ultimately come from? If he says "the wealthy", he's even dumber than I think.
As for those not on ObamaCare, the word "directly" (affected) is conveniently left out.
wow. uh have you heard of romneycare. gruber invented it under romney and romney implemented it in mass. it was the template for obamacare.
and lest we forget, the gop owns obamacare lock stock and barrel since they funded it to the hilt (and they didn’t have to).
