On the heels of Blue Cat Cafes anniversary, Austins first cat cafe was vandalized on Friday, October 21. Statesman reported that someone spray painted "Fuck you gentrified scum" on the cafes door and front of its adjacent food trailer. The person or persons also glued the doors shut.
Blue Cat Cafes grounds on East Cesar Chavez are controversial. It is adjacent to the lot that used to house pinata store Jumpolin, which was suddenly demolished in 2015. The land is owned by F&F Real Estate Ventures, run by Jordan French and Darius Fisher. People call the razing as unfair, and dont believe any business they see as benefiting F&F (i.e. paying rent) should exist on the property. This includes the cat cafe.
Later that day on Friday, a group, Defend Our Hoodz, held a protest outside of the cafe on East Cesar Chavez, calling for a boycott of Blue Cat and and its landlord F&F Real Estate. The protesters said they werent involved with the vandalism.
Someone started a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for the cafe's repairs, which as of publishing time, was close to completing its goal.
When Blue Cat Cafe debuted last year, protesters greeted the opening day. Owner Rebecca Gray launched a Kickstarter campaign to open Austins first cat cafe last year in February, and raised the funds by April 2015. She quickly found the location on East Cesar Chavez. Guests can play with the adoptable cats and do other cafe activities. The on-site trailer serves up vegan food and coffee.
SJWs hating on cats ping.
I know. I think leftists and education has made a large swath of millennials (and other generations) into people with personality disorders.
Chinese restaurant competition?.............
Hopefully the cats are ok.
People I could care less.......!
Day dint build dat, so day won’t appreciate dat.
Never mind that the new businesses can bring much needed $$$ to these communities.
If only there been a clue in the market research study that indicated a scant chance of success for a vegan cat cafe on that site...the business plan was so promising.... who knew?
I think the description, "a group, Defend Our Hoodz", pretty much narrows your question down to a rather limited group of people.
Obviously must be pit bull people.
Many libs will openly reject financial success and security if it they don’t think the money is being made for ‘Holistic and Humanitarian’ reasons. The cafe owner has every right to be there, but personally, I would be concerned for the animals’ safety. Some Lib idiot is liable to throw a brick or Molotov Cocktail through the window, just to ruin someone’s idea that they don’t agree with.
You got to see their point of view. Gentrification always causes a catastrophic reduction of criminality in a neighborhood making it less “real”
Cesar Chavez ave. = MLK blvd. in any city. Nothing good ever happens on MLK blvd., especially after the sun goes down.
I wouldn’t want to be in that area knowing such scum are around, but it’s a shame if the owner is forced out ‘cause then they “win”. It would be nice if she could have some kind of “security”, but I’m sure she’s a lib herself.
Gee, I'm not sure, but seems to me that Jumpolin had a better business plan by providing one time use of their main product which is ingrained in certain cultures with high birth rates that are always having birthdays, sweet 15 parties, etc. Don't hear, "Yo, where'd we put that pinata from last year? Not to mention the rentals and candy and popcorn sales.
And let's face who in their right mind brings their cat to a vegan cat cafe on East Cesat Chavez to lounge around.
Can you grab a pussy at this place?
No grab, only pet.
