My mom used to get Heide Dots because they were cheap.
After Trick or Treating, we'd dump our bags and trade. Premium for fun size Snickers or a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, then Hershey's anything or Nestle's Crunch or M & M's fun size. Some of the siblings were okay with nougaty ones like 3 Musketeers or Milky Way.

I went more for Milk Dud's or Sugar Babies. (NOT Junior Mints, ugh) Things like Smarties, small Tootsie Rolls and wrapped bubble gum (Bazooka, Double Bubble) and tiny Dun-Dum lollypops were used as "change". Tootsie Pops captured more of a premium. A Charms blow pop was as good as a candy bar for trade purposes.
