True. I think the right approach is to be the one to choose the time, place, and circumstances of the "fight".
One of the most impressive training activities I recall was when we simulated an ambush. The ambushers all survived. The ambushees all perished. The fight lasted less than thirty seconds.
The trick to surviving is what most people would call "cheating". The last thing one would want to be involved in would be something you could call a "fair fight".
One of the battles in the American Revolution, as I recall, was won in part by having sharpshooters with rifles, not muskets, taking out British officers. The British didn't consider it ethical.
