By Noah Feldman
With Donald Trumps chances of winning the White House narrowing, its not too soon to ask: If Hillary Clinton wins the presidency in November, what attitude should Democrats and Republicans alike take toward Trump voters? It will be tempting to excoriate or patronize them, or to woo them to your cause. But all of these approaches would be mistaken. A much better strategy -- for both parties -- is to engage in selective memory, and to treat Trump voters as though the whole sorry episode of his candidacy never occurred.

The accompanying comment thread, however, is award winning.
I’m not going to forget that Bloomberg is a bunch of rich, commie wannabe bastards. The lowest scum on the face of the Earth. Take your big bucks and shove ‘em, ***holes!
Let’s forget the 1st Amendment.
Let’s forget the 2nd Amendment.
Let’s forget the USA has borders.
Let’s forget we have three branches of government.
Let’s forget a press free of government control.
That's going to be very hard to do if he wins.
You mean President-Elect Trump?
And when he wins what does Bloomberg plan on doing?
Good heavens, that Comments section is vigorous. The author’s point that it is inappropriate to condescend to the Deporables because well, yes, they really are stupid, is itself a risible piece of condescension. There’s been a hole in the intellectual tank on the Left for a very long time now and what we’re hearing is the gurgling of the last brains draining onto the pavement.
I was going to say perhaps we should pretend that “Noah Feldman doesn’t exist,” except that I don’t think that anyone needs to pretend. What’s more interesting is that now we have Bloomberg distributing this Clinton advocacy journalism. Obviously Bloomberg wants some sort of cabinet post and his brown-nosing columnist is just doing his best to knob-polish his boss.
Every time we have failed, we have come back stronger. If we fail this time, the next time we will be strong enough to take apart the Uniparty.
“......what attitude should Democrats and Republicans alike take toward Trump voters? “
Answer: Be afraid, very afraid.
Hillary Clinton just like ValJar never forgets a slight.
She would have it in for anyone who crossed her, especially
and particularly when democrats have a history of punishing
any opposition.
One cannot say of liberals that they are
magnanimous in victory or contrite in defeat.
Poor babies don’t understand that nothing will ever be the same. Trump, win or lose, has given voice to those who were unable to express theirs.
I say send them to the gas chambers, shoot them, dump them in mass graves. Isn’t that what the left fascists are good at?
Goodness. This election we are seeing the face of what Nazi socialist mentality was all about. Marginalize then make them disappear.
I think Dewey was another person no one could stand (not even his running mate, Earl Warren). But at least he was honest.
I wonder if my relatives in NYC regret voting for Bloomberg for mayor in 2001....
This article is so arrogant, trying to pseudo-intellectually psychoanalyze the entire basket of deplorables. Even worse, the author justifies it as as an attempt to be humane. It’s self-righteous to judge everyone the same, and very fortunately, he’s wrong.
Let’s Forget Donald Trump Happened
Should Hillary win. . .they will wish that “Donald Trump Happened” after the wrath of God comes down on this country.
To ignore Trump voters would most unwise.
