BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) In just a short amount of time, more than 100 women have made plans to wear yoga pants and march in a parade down a street in Barrington.
The parade comes in response to a Barrington Times letter to the editor written by a town man about his dislike for yoga pants.
The backlash to Barrington resident Alan Sorrentinos letter came almost immediately, with many women taking offense and sharing their feelings on social media and the Barrington Times website.
WPRIs news partners at The Providence Journal spoke to the woman who organized the event and she said she was half-joking when she first mentioned a parade.
As a joke, I said I have extra pairs everyone can borrow. Lets go have a parade, Erin Johnson said in an interview with the Journal. I thought it would be funny if everyone went and protested in yoga pants, everyone over 20.
The Yoga Pants Parade is planned for Sunday at 2 p.m. on Sorrentinos street.
The pants don’t look so bad, but the muffin top hanging over - yuck!
Sort of a Slut Walk, right?
Did they do those here in the US, or just in GB?
Yoga is a cult. It baffles me that people fall into it. They talk up the supposed “health benefits” but ignore the cow and elephant worship parts...
Go for a jog!
I hate it when women walk around naked...think I’ll write a letter to the editor.
Sure!
Just as long as they're over her face!
Next thing you know, he will be complaining how bikinis look terrible on young curvy women. Love to be there for that protest.
While waiting in a checkout line, there were a few times when I was afraid some of the pants would stress fail, catastrophically. I always had a plan B of where to run to avoid sudden and severe waist band spillage.
Go ahead, I call 'em as I see 'em.
He’s right, although I’d say they were OK on anyone under 30 and a respectable weight for their height.
He’s right about the mini skirts, too.
Some clothes just should not be made in some sizes.
Why do I have the feeling that the women who show up to protest will make his point?
Holy cow, those are some thighs she’s got.
I hear ya! I am mid-50’s, carry maybe 15 or so excess pounds I’d really like to lose but I pretty much LIVE in yoga pants! I too, wear long outer tops that cover areas that should be covered. My job often requires me to sit on the floor, crouch and climb into cabinets, unpack boxes, pack boxes, put things away on deep shelves, climb step-ladders and move furniture (and not always in the cleanest of homes). Jeans (especially with “spandex”) quickly droop and gap, expensive dress pants are just asking to be ruined, and forget a skirt or dress. Oh and I have the “offensive” pony-tail too (and it’s pure white!) Ha!
Thighs? she has thighs too? Did not notice.
Yep.
I guess BLM has run its course and they need to jump on women wearing their eaten’ pants out in public.
I am not surprised.
But I am female.
Lived in the Hampden Meadows section near 100 Acre Cove, not far from where the writer of this editorial lives.
Best town to live in back in the 1960's - still very Republican back then.
FReegards!
Then his letter should have been a complaint about muffin top, not yoga pants.
Sitting down to pen a letter to my newspaper complaining about hot women wearing short shorts.
thought the pants were torn..maybe its drawstring
