INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) The Indiana Democratic Party is firing back at Indianas secretary of state, saying shes misleading Hoosiers on voter registration irregularities.
Democrats say the accusations by Secretary of State Connie Lawson were politically motivated, especially in an election cycle where voter turnout is expected to be high.
Earlier this week Lawson said thousands of birth dates and names on voter registrations were changed. Those comments prompted an Indiana State Police investigation into possible voter fraud.
On Wednesday, Lawson clarified her original statement. She now says people may have rushed to correct their names or birth dates and that it mat not be widespread fraud.
Democrats echoed that belief Thursday, saying its very possible the disparities are because people moved or got married and didnt update their information. But they fear that voters may hear voter fraud and think their vote doesnt count.
Democrats say thats simply not the case.
Secretary of State Connie Lawson rushed to judgement without apparently knowing all the facts or without doing her homework, said Drew Anderson, the communications director for the Indiana Democratic Party.
Secretary Lawson didnt do this on accident, said Peter Hanscom, the executive director for the Coordinated Campaign for the party. She is misinforming the public, leading to confusion and preventing election administrators from doing their jobs.
While voter registration is closed, you can still confirm your registration by clicking here. If you have additional questions, you can also call 1-866-IN-1-VOTE.
Why would your birthday ever need changing? I doubt that thousands of folks put the wrong date for their birthday.
The Democrat voter fraud was politically motivated, so, ipso facto, any investigation of it is politically motivated, too, in the hive mind.
Yep - democrats have a political motivation to allow as much fraud as possible. Republicans have a political motivation to stop it.
What kind of racist place do you live in?

Why are the Democrats complaining? Until the investigation is completed, how would we know it was Democrats committing the alleged fraud instead of Republicans or “homegrown activists”? Unless... they know.
As Shakespeare wrote, “Methinks they doth protest too much.”
I was surprised at the high-tech voting in Lake County. When I lived in Chicago, I went in, told them my name (no ID required), they looked me up in the register, I signed, they compared it to the one on record, and I voted. THe last time in Chicago was 4 years ago, and they still used paper ballots that you filled out with a pen.
