One old-school no-violence idea would be a sod-covered hole loaded with paint in a plastic bag. One false step and the paint bag reduces the risk of an accident, but what a mess.

Even security cameras would be fun. Catch them in the act and run the video feed for people to see and jeer.
You could have a large screen TV out in the yard near the street, offer refreshments, and the entire neighborhood gets to see the event.
