COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE A mysterious good Samaritan came to the aid of a woman getting mugged at an Andersonville bus stop, cold-cocking the attacker with a Thermos and leaving him on the ground for police to clean up, authorities said.
But authorities don't know who swung the Thermos: The good Samaritan took off before officers arrived, leaving a bus stop full of witnesses to tell the tale.
According to his public defender, Lomeli has worked as a valet parker for the last 20 years.
Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. on Tuesday said Lomeli could be released on his own recognizance as long as he qualifies for the Cook County Sheriff's Office's electronic-monitoring program. If not, Lomeli will be responsible for $100,000 bail
It started Monday afternoon, with the woman waiting for a bus in the 5200 block of North Clark Street, Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said during a bond hearing Tuesday.
The woman spotted a man later identified as Rolalio Lomeli, 61 holding a knife, prosecutors said.
She moved away from him, but he followed her and grabbed her from behind. As the woman struggled to get away, the Thermos-wielding good Samaritan stepped in and knocked Lomeli in the head, prosecutors said. He fell to the ground and was still lying there when police arrived, court records show.
Several witnesses who stuck around told police what happened, but the good Samaritan was gone, according to a police report.
Police recovered a broken knife with a hook on one end, prosecutors said.
Lomeli, of the 2600 block of North Shore Avenue, now faces charges of armed robbery with a deadly weapon.
“Old enough to know better.”
Oh, absolutely! It’s just that I figured most people kind of mellow out by that age.
This guy should be doing commercials for the thermos company.
You are correct - I would NEVER stick around after doing an act of justice like this.
Our society does not respect justice-givers like it used too. I blame diversity.
When you start valet parking at 41 and continue it for the next 20 years, you’ve made some bad choices.
...unless he had an iced drink.
Suspensions coming down the pike for students bringing thermoses to cafeterias.
Depends. Are you talking about chickens?
What I want to know is just *how* the thermos knows that the stuff in it is supposed to be hot or cold?
Anyone???
Thermos Thor?
It doesn't. How could it? Why should it?
Why overcomplicate things?
The vacuum bottle is merely an insulator. It inhibits energy passing through it.
Hot coffee? Lots of energy inside, wants to get out but can't get out because vacuum bottle. Therefore coffee stays warm.
Ice tea? Very little energy inside, wants to suck in energy from outside but can't because vacuum bottle. Therefore tea stays cold.
Perp is thore, too.
Yes, it does! Thx
You are correct- Criminals form a major segment of the Democrat Party's voting constituency and they will not hesitate to protect and defend their criminals. ACLU lawyers will be lining up to represent this criminal in a law suite against this "Good Samaritan" for personal injury and disability.
Even drawing a picture of one will get you a suspension.
There’s also the chance that the mugger has friends who will try to go after the Good Samaritan. Best to stay anonymous.
Dang....No video...
Not so...valet parkers, in the right location, can make a TON of money, much of it tax free. While one is supposed to pay taxes on tips, many don't and parkers are well compensated that way.
