I have been appalled since... circa 1982, when I had to work closely with an Iranian male.
Later, about 1998, I witnessed one of the most assertive, independent female co-workers I ever knew marry one. I literally never spoke to her again; he would not permit it.
As The Red Queen points out, high-dominance females desire a high-dominance male who can/will dominate her.
Feminists tend to be independent, and they - I assert - secretly find the utterly sexist and arrogant Muslim males more masculine and desirable than the neutered metro-whatevers they have created in American culture.

Couple that with the spiritual depravity of a fallen humanity, and - no matter how appalling it may be - it is also understandable.
