I think you are making the mistake of believing the enemy's propaganda. The polls being spewed by Axis Sally (MSM) are as far off as they can get away with.
Regardless of who is responsible, Trump needs to continue to own up to it in a compelling way, if true. The whodunnit can be dealt with later, but undecided voters or voters who can be swayed are not going to care.
