Were Muslims partially responsible for American independence?
Hillary Clinton raised eyebrows with a questionable claim during Sundays fiery presidential debate by stating Islam was always part of American history even since the Revolutionary War.
After recycling the Khizir Khan controversy, the Democrat nominee claimed weve had Muslims in America since George Washington.

“I assumed she was talking about West African slaves; wouldnt that make sense?”
Nope. Because the slavers in Africa were the Muslims, and they were capturing and selling African animists not fellow Muslims.
Obama’s paternal bloodline is African Muslim so he could well be descended from slavers.
I think Trump could have mentioned in the debate that there are passages in the Quran that order violent acts. Therefore, it it is reasonable to conclude that some Muslims do their violence in obedience to the Quran.
Muslims
Hottentots
Tuaregs
Abyssinians
Hindus

...in the United States during the founding of the country. But they were very small in numbers and played no significant role in establishing our independence.
I've never seen or heard of any documentation of this claim. Zero.
I'm with DesertRhino on this.... would need serious documentation for such an assertion.
Lol,,,, “Plymouth Rock”/ Im sure that’s what is taught in common core.
In West Africa blacks sold captured (black) enemies as slaves.
The lib rewriting of history has been underway. In the fantasy of Libland, 20% of the slaves brought to America were Muslim!
In reality the exceedingly rare Mahometan who found himself sold into slavery in America was notable for his unusual background, as the original, unedited by today’s revisionists, story of Omar ibn Said indicates.

I’ve yet to hear anyone other than Hillary and Treason Lobby Republicans who want Muslims imported into America. We have mosques sprouting in SoCal and when I hear locals talking about it they are anything but happy.
Germans failed to object when their traitorous political class opened the door to “Syrian refugees”. If Americans keep their anger to themselves the likes of Hillary and Ryan will gladly do the same to this country.
Few people have any idea how much you know about the money trail — the way the Clintons profit from radical muslims.
I really need to go back through the ‘digging deep’ archive some time and focus a single ‘Clinton Foundation’ thread with your research:

Indimidating prospect!
I wish some other ambitious FRiend would take up that challenge. So much to keep up on.

Why not just go all the way and say moslems founded America.
yes there were muslims in US apparently before columbus according to some simple searches - a Harvard project webpage said maybe as far back as 1200’s a PBS History detective link said 1300”s and both said for sure when slaves were being brought in. Also spain exiled some muslim people and they settled in carolina’s.
Some years back I read there was a very small percent of muslim in the population at US founding but that founders were well aware of belief differences and what that meant for peoples living peaceably with each other long term.
We have to keep in mind the Americas were where countries sent those they did not want and also where people came to get away from persecution in other countries.
Columbus never landed here....................... True but other Spaniards came shortly there after. The Muslims in Spain were sailors and merchants, is it inconceivable that there were many on the ship crews? I can’t come up with the manifests, but I would say that the probability is there. Before we became the USA our colonies were using slaves from Africa, 20% of which were Muslim. They were here then, so is it not conceivable that through generations they contributed to the growth of our country. (Close to 500 years with no problems within our boundaries.)
“In West Africa blacks sold captured (black) enemies as slaves.”
Sort of. They weren’t so much enemies as victims/prey that were hunted by Africans that dealt in slaves. African Muslims.
There’s a memoir, “Captain Canot, or Twenty Years of an African Slaver”. It provides a first person look at what the slave trade in Africa was like, something that is rarely written about, and certainly rare in a first person account. Canot lived among the African chieftans who captured slaves and sold them. It’s an amazing story that also includes pirates. If you use Kindle it’s free from Amazon.
Christopher Columbus founded New York City.
It's why Columbia University is headquartered there.
Yes he did. The city of Boston was named after him.
These muslims bring nothing of value to this nation. In fact, over 90% will be collecting welfare (US tax dollars) for many years to come.
They pose a threat to our security and we’re paying to bring them in makes absolutely no sense. There is nothing logical about the way democrats think.
The rewriting of American history to make Islam part of it is already underway by one Peter Manseau. He’s the “source” for the claims that 20% of slaves were Muslim. It pays to check the veracity and agendas of sources like Manseau.
My jaw dropped at that one. If there were any Muslims in America during Washington's time they were among the African slave population. They certainly didn't have anything to do with the building of our country.
There is a variety of evidence pointing to pre-Columbus contact of Europeans and people of the Mediterranean, and even some of Chinese contact.
These are scattered bits and pieces. Nothing that enables us to say anything more definitive that they were pre-Columbus contacts.
The obvious pre-Columbus contact was of the Vikings. While variously argued by scholars, the discovery of Viking villages upon the receding of the glaciers in Newfoundland and Greenland confirms not merely occasional contact as when a ship becomes lost at sea, but actual colonization. As to what became of these Viking settlements, it appears that the Little Ice Age had something to do with it.
As for Islamic contact with the Americas, and Muslim presence at the founding of the country, there is very little tangible evidence, but there is some. Columbus was in contact with the Islamic world and, perhaps, was tipped off not only to the trade winds but also to the existence of a land mass in the vicinity of the Americas. His map of the world was terribly off, being much smaller than what had been known since the days of ancient Egypt ad Greece about the circumference of the world. But, this map could have reflected an attempt to reconcile the position of “China” relative to Europe, given knowledge that there was a great land mass not far west in the Great Sea.
Regarding slaves, taken from west Africa, it is likely that most of them were captured by Muslim tribes and then sold to Europeans. But, possibly among the slaves were some Muslims. While stripped of their clothing and possessions, it is possible those Muslim slaves remembered enough of the teachings of Islam to appreciate the similar teachings of Christianity. But, African animists clearly embraced the Gospel message, so the forced or fraudulent conversion of slaves to Christianity was hardly necessary. Remember, it was among the mixed-race slaves of the Roman Empire with whom early Christianity spread.
That three names could be found among the rosters of the Continental Army that might have been a Muslim is hardly indicative of anything. All three names were apparently taken by the men after they had gained their freedom. Possibly one or more of the three were Muslims, but there were no Korans or Mosques or any other indication of community worship. By the time of Washington’s march to Yorktown, the Continental features many men of color. My state of Virginia gave freedom to many who joined in the struggle and we had a very large population of free men of color as a consequence. So, if there were any, they were only a few.
Paradoxically, the Civil War is proof of no American Muslims at the time of the Revolution. We clearly had Muslims in our army during the Civil War. But, they came here from Morocco and elsewhere in the Islamic World, not from among our native born population. Some came here as runaway slaves, and joined in our effort to free the slaves; and, some came here as free men in order to free the slaves in this country.
Hillary Clinton has her purpose in saying what she did, grasping at mere traces of history to make a political statement.
We don’t have to go back that far in American history. How many Star and Crescents mark the graves in Europe from WWi & WWII? How about in the Punchbowl in Hawaii? How many Muslim-Americans died on Omaha Beach or are entombed on USS Arizona? We actually got along pretty well for a long time without them.
