Trump's 'you'd be in jail' debate jab at Clinton condemned

Donald Trump says he’ll jail opponent Hillary Clinton if he wins the presidency.

The Republican presidential nominee made the threat — an unprecedented break with U.S. political decorum — in the middle of the second presidential debate, held Sunday in St. Louis. […]

Trump's remarks drew widespread and bipartisan condemnation as un-American.

Former Attorney General Eric Holder, who served under President Barack Obama, wrote on Twitter: “In the USA we do not threaten to jail political opponents. @realDonaldTrump said he would. He is promising to abuse the power of the office.”

Ari Fleischer, White House press secretary under George W. Bush and a supporter of Trump, wrote: “Winning candidates don’t threaten to put opponents in jail. Presidents don’t threaten prosecution of individuals. Trump is wrong on this.” …

It was a great line. No one cares about Ari Fleischer.

Eric Holder should be in jail, too.

...justification to pardon Hillary.

Are you stupid? She first has to be convicted of something to be pardoned.

When has she been convicted in a court of law of anything?

For Obama to pardon Hillary she would first have to be tried and found guilty of a crime BEFORE Obama leaves office.

Not gonna happen, because Loretta Lynch heads Obama’s Department of Injustice.

The line about her being in jail was a laugh line. The special prosecutor discussion was the serious part. People seem to have a hard time understanding Trump’s dry humor. Of course his opponents don’t want to. His lines about grabbing women in the old tape was also obvious comedy, exaggerating the situation for laughs, which Billy Bush correctly responded to by laughing. There seems to be a war on comedy this election.

No he could pardon her before any legal action, as Ford did for Nixon.

He did, but Nixon did not have anyone on his side in executive “justice” departments proclaiming in public that they do not recommend bringing him up on charges, i.e. after Congress ceased impeachment proceedings post-resignation. Hillary didn’t even get to the point of being indicted.

You are an idiot!
Pardon
A pardon is a government decision to allow a person who has been convicted of a crime, to be free and absolved of that conviction, as if never convicted.

This has been discussed many times on FR, and some random dictionary citation does not determine legal meanings. Ford’s pardon of Nixon, and a few court cases like Burdick v. United States in 1915 establish the legal details.

Read this and get back to me...
This is the full text of the Articles of Impeachment adopted by House Judiciary Committee on July 27, 1974.
RESOLVED, That Richard M. Nixon, President of the United States, is impeached for high crimes and misdemeanours...

He was convicted.

You are, of course, wrong again. Nixon was never impeached.

He resigned because he lost political support.

Once that decision was made Nixon knew he would be thrown out of office so he simply left before the vote could be taken. Any "trial" (a vote) would have been moot at that point.

The House Judiciary Committee Articles was as good as a verdict in Court.

Nixon was never impeached.

You mean it never went to trial (a vote count in Congress).

As I said...The House Judiciary Committee Articles was as good as a verdict in Court.

His resignation was his own impeachment.

You have not understand the legalities of a presidential pardon. You need to drop it. Please.
