After years of playing with pawns and bishops, the reigning queen of US chess finds herself in the biggest stalemate of her career.
Nazi Paikidze, 22, shook up the chess world over the weekend when the US womens champion announced shes boycotting the Womens World Chess Championship in Iran in February instead of complying with the countrys law that women cover up with a hijab. The Russian-born star, who now lives in Las Vegas, told The Post she wont budge unless FIDE the world chess federation moves the competition to a no-conflict zone or makes wearing the hijab optional.

Good for her. That Hijab stuff is BS. What moron picked Iran for a chess championship?
“Georgia was the second country in the world to have christianity as the official religion”
After Armenia, right?
you get your kix above the waistline, sunshine...
I had to look it up in the Urban Dictionary.
Unicorn
The rare creature who is able to give you the thing you always wanted but thought you you could never have.
“You fell in love with a unicorn. It was beautiful, then sad, then sadder. I laughed, I cried, I puked in my mouth a little. And honestly, I kind of get it.”
Like the thread about the kid who dressed up like a thief, white culture, ya da ya da ya da, I still don’t get it.
Good on her ... unfortunate name
Who names their kid.....”
I’ve got a buddy who named his daughter Uzi.
It’s a Jewish thing.
“Nazi means gentle in Georgian.”
Well, that’s the only place it does.
What I meant was that you never, ever see women, good looking or not, at chess tournaments. Ever. They're unicorns, only existing in pictures.
I played for years and years, and can count the number of women I played against on one hand, with a couple of fingers left over. Was fairly friendly with one, she was practical, said that she joined the Chess Team to meet guys.
Made sense to me. She had her pick of horny chess nerds, if that was her thing, more power to her.
And the girl wonders why nobody ever came to her birthday parties!
F Iran, and FIDE - what a bunch of moronic twats.
Good for her and standing up for her principles.
Well, according to her bio on Wiki, it's pronounced Nah-ZEE, is a fairly common Georgian name, and it means tender or delicate.
I thought men and women were equal and all that. If so, why is there a female only chess organization? Sounds terribly sexist to me.
I honestly don’t understand why you would have gender separation in chess.
It is not a physical activity, so separating champions might imply that women also can’t compete in a mental game like chess???
Really? Where are the feminist?
“The kind of queens we use would no excite you.”
Alright, alright ... I’m heading back to my bars, my temples, and my massage parlors ...
yeah. sporting boycotts can cut both ways leftists...take that nfl, chess league, ncaa.
“Who names their kid.....”
It is pronounced NahhZee and means tender.
