A tornado with 80mph wind (F1) is pretty much just a nuisance.
Damage that makes news outside of a local area kicks in at the high end of F2 strength, 150mph winds.
Not entirely true. Even a 80 mph tornado is carrying a debris field with it. And 80 mph moving in a circle has a shearing or twisting effect, plus an updraft. I live in tornado alley, come on down!
