WASHINGTON -- Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said America needs to stop wasting food, even if that means teaching people to cut back on the amount of food on their plates.
Speaking at the National Press Club on Monday, the former Iowa governor said long-term food insecurity "is a challenge, because we're going to have to increase food production -- I've seen anywhere from 50 to 70 percent in the next 35 years -- to meet a growing world population."
"But the first step, and the one way the USDA can provide help and assistance to meet this need, is to expand on the -- on the issue of food waste," Vilsack said. "A third of the food that we grow, raise and produce in this country is never consumed the way it was intended. It's wasted."

Never EVER eat margarine, that stuff is bad for you. Of course the potato is also double plus un-good.
Hmmm...perhaps a little blood-thirsty for a thread about what to do with leftovers...
Why are potatoes “bad for you”? They managed to sustain the Irish for a century. God bless the tatie!
The "conquer or die" thing is not the whole story, or even most of the story. To center on it seems a view unenlightened by grace. But it's a losing proposition: clutching your prepper foods or not. Shooting down the Mongol horde or not. Anything you do, you die.
Without grace, you generally get hell here as well as hereafter. It's not a good way to live, and as a way to die, a guaranteed total loss.
In my house, it gets thrown out if it goes bad. Red meat, cut off the bad portion and eat it. I do all the time, and haven’t gotten sick yet. I used to work in a restaurant and you wouldn’t believe what the burger looked like that we used for taco meat. Cheese, the mold is natural. Cut it off and eat the good.
and most of the waste is from mooche’s school lunch program . . . . . .
Then cut back all the EBT funds by 30%,

Make it 100% or prove to me where any of it is constitutional.
You are correct, but it is not my job to feed the hungry 10,000 miles away. It is my job to take care of my family, my neighbors and as many as I can. There is no following of Christs example by gathering involuntary taxes, taking a cut off the top, and “giving to the needy”.
You know, I used to think about prepping. But when you look at Venezuela and communist countries, you realize the futility of that. They basically shoot preppers and steal the food. Commies are no fools; just evil.
That is always a problem when Caesar steps in where the church ought to be (and 1 mile or 10,000 would mean squat).
But if I were bishop, I’d be asking the church whether this scene suggests that a “hole” where Christ ought to be is getting filled due to a “vacuum” in it, and saying hint hint hint hint hint!
In a very long term situation, it is difficult.
Vilsack ain’t exactly slim.
Yes, me too. There are some that do, but with limited selections. Our super-sized portions are pretty stupid, actually. And people with those 'bubba mugs'...really??
I thought this was going to be about the amount of food stamps given out and the number of very obese people getting them.
Cold pizza is the perfect breakfast food!

"But the first step, and the one way the USDA Federal Government can provide help and assistance to meet this need, is to expand on the -- on the issue of food MONEY waste," Vilsack said. "A third of the food MONEY that we grow, raise and produce EARN in this country is never consumed LEFT IN THE HANDS OF THE PRODUCERS the way it was intended. It's wasted."
This section of Deuteronomy, if you left off the label, would strike most people as a likely pericope from the Koran. Fits in perfectly with the ethic of Muhammad and the Four Rightly-Guided Caliphs, and their successors.
In the full sweep of of Hebrew scriptures, it ends up showing the ultimate futility of a desert raider-wsrlord ethic, and the need of a divine Savior.
Which I think is pretty much the point of the Old Testament.
It would be nice to get back to the topic of this thread --- wasting food --- from which we went far astray.
My own observation on that is, I don't trust the utter and complete sincerity of anyone who natters on about wasting food and fuel, who still engages in air travel.
That includes Mr. Ag Sec'y Vilsack and all his class, and yes, the pope!
Right, that’s how she became known as Skid Crow! ugh
How about we stop diverting most of the US corn crop to the production of ethanol fuels that nobody wants.
How about that, Tom...
