You do realize there was no old priest nor young priest. This parable was a false dichotomy typical of Jesuits. A straw man in parable form.
One can be both compassionate and devoted to Truth.
That’s not how I read the Pope’s quote. But however, if that is the case, why is it false if it aligns to the parable in Luke where Christ admonishes the Lawyer for not taking care of the beaten/robbed man?
I do not think the Pope is ignoring the truth merely for befriending the sinner.
