Stupid cop assaulted a man for being on his property.
They should have asked if he lived there and moved on.
No need to make to make it a capital case.

"They should have asked if he lived there and moved on."
He even told them to ask his neighbor Charlie to verify he lived there.
And they would not.

Actually it was his Mom's house. He tried to call her and the call went to a generic VM greeting. And he had a criminal record. Some suspicion was warranted but the officers let this get way out of hand. If the guy being hassled had just shut up and said he wasn't talking to them anymore I wonder what the cops would have done.
I haven't left my house for many years, even to pull weeds in the front yard or get the mail, without my ID in my right front pocket. I have to wonder why this guy wasn't able to easily identify himself.
The other thing I don't understand is why the officers didn't want to go with him to a neighbor's house to prove that he belonged on his mom's front porch.
There was plenty of stupid to go around on this one.

They should have asked if he lived there and moved on.Wouldn't professional thugs always answer in the affirmative?
Just move on?
