Patricia McCarthy: Too soon to know
Anyone who read Tom Clancy's novel, Debt of Honor, published in 1994, has most likely wondered why it was not made into a film long ago. It is a gripping novel, written long before 9/11. The book tells the story of a Japanese man whose parents were killed at the end of WWII. He plots his deranged revenge by becoming a pilot and ultimately flying a jetliner into the Capitol building during the State of the Union address. In that book, his main character Jack Ryan, from his books Hunt for Red October, Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games, etc., is the "designated survivor."
It is this book that is the likely kernel of the idea for the new television series, Designated Survivor, a Kiefer Sutherland venture very similar in vein to his long-running series, 24. In this program, he is a lowly cabinet member who is catapulted into the presidency when every other person in the government senior to him is killed in a catastrophic event right out of Tom Clancy's novel.
After only two episodes, there is something unnerving about the show; where is it going? It could be good; or it could be a work of anti-American, pro-Muslim propaganda. It is too soon to know.
It is an absolute myth that after 9/11 Muslim Americans were targeted for violence by "bigoted" Americans. In fact, there was no backlash against Muslim citizens; this was a trope of the Left, convenient as it fit into their worldview but an outright lie.

“Kiefer ended the 24 series by converting Jack Bauer into a muslim,”
Really?
Never watched the show. Not a single episode but did hear he was a butt-kicker guy that did what needed to be done. . .and then becomes a coward muslime that offers his stinky-butt to the moon gawd. . .sheeesh.
“Oh wait, Hillary will be in and out before everyone even sits down”
You mean “Oh wait, Hillary will be in and PASSED OUT before everyone even sits down”
I feel the same way.
Actually there are two authors. Patricia McCarthy and Marion DS Dreyfus
20 minutes into the first episode I pegged the military general as the culprit. Or is that too obvious?
I was saying just that to my wife when we watched last night.
You know that the reveal is going to be white nationalists or militiamen doing the attack and trying to blame innocent muzzies.
The bombmakers will turn out to be domestic terrorists of the conservative persuasion. Since the bomb was found and noted to be non-explosive but with components from every baddie, plus the gratuitous stop of the ME looking White House aide by police, the story is obvious.
I turned it off by the last fifteen minutes and probably won’t watch it again.
I’ve watched the first two and I’ll keep recording them ... for now.
24 was a lot of fun at times and Kiefer Sutherland is a decent actor. The “main” plot has potential and I want to see where it goes. But I can also see where this one can jump the shark rather quickly.
So far I’ve been interested in their attention to the Constitution. Such a catastrophic attack would open up a whole can of Constitutional issues that would not be easy to decide. The issue of states rights has already been breached, so the Constitution is my key to whether I watch the whole season or if this one goes the way of “Fear The Walking Dead” into digital hell.
Too bad nobody spun up a thread for “The Last Ship.” I love spending time aboard the Nathan James!
We had this recorded and attemped the first episode last night. We turned it off after 30 minutes. It was too namby pamby and stunk of propaganda. Really bad writing.
You are correct, they have been doing this for 1400 years and had no reason to change.
We have already fought 2 wars against them.
Islam is a political/military entity shrouded by a religion.
When was their reformation?
No exactly accurate. Jack Ryan had been sworn in as VP before the SOTU. He had left the Capital when the plane crashed into it.
Quinn was the best thing. Of course they slowly tortured and then killed him.
Yeah, I too thought he was jack Bauer in his Clark Kent disguise. Kiefer doesn’t seem to know how to not be jack Bauer. Lol.
First thing I thought of when seeing that was of Battlestar Galactica where the new president had been secretary of education. “This government is being run by a school teacher?”
As to the TV show, I was talking back to the TV screen over the portrayal of the governor who was defending his citizens against further attack. Bigot, my ass.
I’ll continue watching the show for now, with my BS filter set to “leftwing script.”
Huh???? Where did that come from?
I tried to watch, its a horrible disappointing show with manly-annoying women characters.
I watch The Last Ship mostly out of habit. The first season or two was great, but they’ll never get me to swallow the need for an ascendant federal government run by Fat Albert at the expense of sovereign states competing with each other.
Stranger Things on Netflix was fun.Only 8 episodes.Old school scary .Had a beginning, middle and end. They just picked it up for next year.
I didn’t even know it was on because I don’t watch network TV and haven’t since 1998.
Of course, but that’s the whole point of propaganda, they want the viewers to think that character *is* Hillary.
