Women and minorities cannot understand logic or objective truths, says a graduate student in her dissertation, so science classes should stop using the scientific method.
College science classes are hostile to women and minorities because they use the scientific method, which assumes people can find reliable truths about the natural world through careful and sustained experimentation, concludes a recent dissertation by a doctoral candidate at the University of North Dakota.
Laura Parson, a student in the universitys education department, reviewed eight science class syllabi at a Midwest public university and said she discovered in them a hidden hostility to women and minorities:
"Initial exploration of the STEM syllabi in this study did not reveal overt references to gender, such as through the use of gendered pronouns. However, upon deeper review, language used in the syllabi reflects institutionalized STEM teaching practices and views about knowledge that are inherently discriminatory to women and minorities by promoting a view of knowledge as static and unchanging, a view of teaching that promotes the idea of a passive student, and by promoting a chilly climate that marginalizes women."
Even though the course syllabi contained no gendered assumptions about students or other overtly discriminatory implications, Parson writes, they display prejudice against women and minorities because they refuse to entertain the possibility that scientific knowledge is subjective.
Women Are Too Stupid to Use Logic
Throughout her dissertation, Parson assumes and asserts that women and minorities are uniquely challenged by the idea that science can provide objective information about the natural world. This is an unfair assumption, she says, because the concept of objectivity is too hard for women and minorities to understand. Besides the flawed thinking of this student regarding who can perform objective investigation (e.g., just look at the past decade of veterinary college graduating classes), her “survey” was apparently not adequate.
I personally teach a biomedical sciences-listed course in contemplative tools for creative problem solving at an Ivy League university and have for the past five years. Plus there is a peer-reviewed journal article on use of these tools in biomedical science education.
But a broader range of scientific education and training would not fit her sound-bite narrative either. It’s hardly shocking that scientists would adopt a full range of tools that could support their work and careers.
What’s the point of being a feminist if you can’t go around shouting that women can do anything a man can do and better?

The corruption of peer review continues. Base your research on someone else’s flawed data, a la Mann, combined with government grants that want a certain result, and you get false results that compound with time.

Nonsense. I have worked with women, and with people of various racial/ethnic backgrounds, throughout my engineering career. I've seen plenty of women and "minorities" who have no trouble with logic and objective truth.

In other words, she flunked whatever science or math courses she took and just can't get over it.

This woman is saying that women (and minorities) cannot understand logic and cannot understand the immutable nature of truth.
By saying so in her dissertation to be recognized as a PhD, she uses “logic” (in her mind).
Apparently she cannot understand irony, either.

First, this doctoral student is potentially getting a degree in “education”. Second, a degree in education (especially a PhD) is worthless. Finally, her ability to think critically is severely absent. Should she get her PhD, it merely is making the BS in the world Piled Higher sand Deeper (PhD).
If science is so hard for “minorities” why are science classes and faculty filled with Asians?
She could still poison the community colleges as an adjunct:)
