Train struck train station in Hoboken, NJ....mass casualties, reports of fatalities.
Whatever happened the fail safes didn’t work. Whoever was the engineer if he is still alive has some splainin to do.
Good he’s safe!
Pictures of devastation...
Each car as an emergency brake. If all the conductors, there are at least 3, were incapacitated a passenger can pull the emergency brake.
The ferry line a bit more uptown.
Commuting back is going to be a nightmare.
I’m staying home !
FoxNews reporting the one fatality (so far?) was a woman.
I’m guessing the summary is: the train doesn’t accidentally _not_ stop. Lots of safety backups in place.
To wit: deliberate crash.
But that’s my guess at this point.
WOR radio reports 3 confirmed fatalities.
Forget my last post other angles show the train did reach the building. Awful.
Awful. Thanks.
OSHA violation, no hard hats. Get Obama on the case.

It’s not impossible to have brake failure, just very rare.

3 conductors, and I assume an engineer? Is there any kind of safety switch on the track that would stop a train coming in too fast?
current slogan for America: They were running for their lives. (three dead reported by Faux News, expect numbers to go up.) Expect admonishment later by the POTUS for our behavior.
Conductor, for some reason, never pulled the emergency brake.
My guess is that the engineer/driver had a heart attack or was otherwise dead.
