White House Watch: Clinton 42%, Trump 41%, Johnson 7%, Stein 2%
Rasmussen ^ | 9/29/16 | Rasmussen Reports

Posted on 09/29/2016 5:32:29 AM PDT by NYC-RepublicanCT

Following Monday night’s debate, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are running virtually even in Rasmussen Reports’ first daily White House Watch survey.

Our latest national telephone and online survey of Likely U.S. Voters finds Clinton with 42% support to Trump’s 41%. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson earns seven percent (7%) of the vote, while Green Party nominee Jill Stein holds steady at two percent (2%). Three percent (3%) still like some other candidate, and five percent (5%) remain undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Trump had been moving ahead over the two previous weeks and held a 44% to 39% lead over Clinton last week at this time. It was the first time he had been ahead since mid-July.

Eighty percent (80%) say they are sure which candidate they will vote for, and among these voters, Clinton and Trump are tied with 48% support each. Among voters who say they could still change their minds, it’s Clinton 34%, Trump 33%, Johnson 25% and Stein 8%.

They don’t really matter most years...

This year they will matter, but not in any way that is beneficial to Hillary.

Debates matter this year, because Trump is going to show all those folks who know they won’t vote Hillary, but aren’t sure if they can vote Trump because for the last year they have heard nothing but how Trump is evil and wicked and racist.

They are watching simply to see and decide if Trump is what they say he is, or if he appears reasonable to them.

As long as they determine he looks reasonable he wins their vote... Nothing Hillary can do or say will get them to vote for her. They will either decide Trump is reasonable and vote for him, or they will stay home or vote 3rd party.

So this is a year like 1980, where the debates will influence the election, but only for Trump... He looks reasonable his numbers go way up... Nothing Hillary does or says will increase her standing with the electorate at all.

You are right. If they cant be negative, then they just dont post.

Polls are here to define their mood for the day. If it’s up, they kick back and do nothing. If it’s not, they run here emote, wail, and then turn into campaign consultants....and then do nothing.

Here's what it comes down to.... Trump has refused to advertise (till now). he has spent $10mm to her $150mm. He has been pounded non-stop by the disgraceful biased media.

He had an opportunity to speak up in front of 85 million Americans... what did he do?

He pulled a Romney.. he was called a racist, misogynist, liar, crook, thief, racist again... and so many more nasty things. He also let her go on her lies, emails, Benghazi, on and on.

He got spanked and didn't fight back.. none of those charges were answered, so guess what, people think - hey- if she says this and he doesn't challenge it, it must be true... when she blasted him for calling a woman a name, he should have shot back that he called tens of MILLIONS of men and women racist, misogynist, etc via her deplorables comment.

Awful performance and I'm all in for him. But there's lots of reason for optimism... 2 debates left (he committed to not holding back) and a commitment to spend $140mm in ads... he'll pull it out in the end, but it shouldn't be this close!

Yes the polls are bogus . I bet Trump is really 10% more than what they say in those fake polls. We’ll start seeing the real numbers as we get closer to the election that is the Internet is still free and not controlled by Muslim countries and China(Obama is planning on giving the Internet control away to foreign dictatorships Mostly Muslim countries 57 of them in a few days or tomorrow?)

“Gallup: Democrats who ‘will definitely vote’ at 16-year low”

The problem is the D machine and early voting. The have the money to pester every D voter ad nauseum until they vote early. They won’t wait until election day, and with over a month in some places it will be interesting to see how many of the uninterested will fall to the bullying.

I’m not sure how many of you are aware of this... Trump has committed to $140mm in ads down the stretch. $100mm in TV/Radio, and $40mm in digital... This, plus a more forceful performance in Debates II and III should get Trump back to +5!... Very optimistic that this will be effective

Yep. Good analogy. I hope Trump has a LOT more votes than the Beast. In a close election, they create ghost ballots and multiple voters like the dirtbag Islamist in Washington State.

As FReeper LS has stated, it all depends on turnout model expected. We’re all hoping turnout is closer to ‘14, but Crooked’s constituency is far more likely to vote for Pres than down-ticket races

2016 is very similar to 2000 election.
2008 was weird .
Soros crashed the market with his hacks overseas .
Mccain quit campaigning and decided to pocket the campaign cash since he was grandfathered as a long time DC hack.
2012 there was an incumbent cycle and Romney was awful stuck up who turned off the Reagan Democrats .

these dem pollsters know that but there marching orders are to sell a lie

Agreed... but with Scott, it was inept... It's just another data point

Scott Rasmussen started POA (Portrait Of America) during the 2000 election cycle... Great site, had state by state analysis (the few that did). Going into the election, he had Bush winning by 8... He closed the site right after the election... Just a little history

TOTALLY agree, but the frustration is that the media will spew this horse-sh** for days... The only TV station worth watching anymore is FOX BUSINESS, which is excellent by comparison.

it is now all about the margin of fraud.

Polls for the last 40 years have been about making the election result believable.
