Hey, doesn't that booze belong to the Evans descendant in Texas?

Just because it's old stuff doesn't necessarily mean it was good stuff. It's probably just old swill.

I believe the legal principle of “Finderex Keeperus” applies here.

But the British are honorable and decent people. I have to believe they'll reach out to the descendants and offer them a bottle. Or a case.

Pffft. You wouldn’t make this kind of discovery in Ireland, that’s for damn sure.

Some of the recovered pottery items were inscribed with the name of Thomas Evans, the pub’s landlord in 1821.”
Ummm, 19th century...

Back in the day I worked briefly for a well-known liquor and wine purveyor in NYC. They had bought an old cellar that had been discovered by accident when a building in mid-town was being remodeled.
It had several levels cut into the bedrock of the city and kept a stable year-round temperature ideal for wine. In the very bottom level where youhad to climb down a metal ladder they found some of very olde wines still unopened in huge jeroboam bottles.
Eventually they opened one of them and found nothing but vinegar. An anti-climax, but it was still a cool discovery.

The bottle pictured in the article is circa 1900 not early 1800’s.
