Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. has announced the highly anticipated, heavily redesigned Ruger Mark IV pistol. While the pistol maintains the same classic outward appearance as the Mark III, its simple, one-button takedown for quick and easy field-stripping will be a welcome and appreciated change for fans of this model. A recessed button in the back of the frame allows the upper receiver to tilt up and off of the grip frame without the use of tools. The bolt simply slides out of the receiver and the barrel can be properly cleaned from chamber to muzzle.
We are thrilled to be introducing what we consider to be a monumental improvement to this iconic pistol that has been with Ruger from the start, said Ruger President and COO Chris Killoy. This one-button takedown alleviates the headache that our Mark III owners are all too familiar with and we anticipate the Mark IV pistols being some of the cleanest rimfires at the range, Killoy concluded. . .

WHAT!
They’re disbanding the brotherhood of the Ruger Mark 22?!
That’s the most secretive, esoteric, and exclusive group I’ve ever belonged to!
Secret handshakes be damned!Reassemble a Ruger 22 correctly and you’ve reached an accomplishment few can claim mastery of!
“Apparently you’ve not had the pleasure off changing out a trigger group in a Ruger 22/45 pistol. You’re in for a real treat.”
I DID THIS.
When the instructors tell you that you need to flex the muscle on your thumb under the snuffbox in order to properly align the springs... you’re in for a treat.
I put that damned thing together 22-45 times before I got it right. And it fits together. It just doesn’t work unless specific lateral forces are on the spring too.
Once it’s together right, it won’t knock out of place but my god. It wasn’t gunsmithing. It was surgery.
Oh and then AND THEN AND THEN everytime you do it, it will accept different ammo ! IF you put it together wrong, it will only feed hot ammo. It’ll still work, it’ll just work with different brands and loads.
But the Mark II Ruger is a no miss experience.
They're awesome like that. 9 rounds on target, every single time.
Yes. I remember it well. Like root canal without benefit of anesthesia.
LOL!
Are you lacking opposable thumbs?
That's the silliest comment I've read all month.
Yes, Glocks are a pain in the ass to take down. Gotta get those little lever things just right or it ain't happening. You want easy, get a Hi-Power. Or a SIG. Or ...
I have one that is a safe queen, it’s a Mark I, and a jamamatic.
That and an old Llama .45 that jams once a magazine.
Brought them to some “gunsmiths”, but none have been been able to fix them.

I realize that’s rank heresy to the Cult of Smyrna, but there it is. Deal with it. Not everybody is in luv with Gaston’s combat Tupperware.
I guess we just agree to disagree on this one. I have field stripped so many glocks in the last 20 years it no longer takes conscious thought. ( full disclosure, I am a factory certified law enforcement armorer).

That's unfortunate. Mine runs great, on just about any ammo.
When it's clean.
And that, of course, is the rub. Taking it down and cleaning it is one thing. It's easy, in fact.
Putting it back together, OTOH ...
That's not heresy; it's BLASPHEMY!
Repent, or you will go to California!
Take the slide off my Glock 19 with one hand. Can’t do that with my 1911 Colt. Both are great handguns, among the very best ever made.
And there is the difference. I've seen people do that with the Ruger MkII as well.
Amen!!! The 22/45 is a pure Hillary to take down!!!
Clocks are a breeze to break down. 1911’s just a tad harder but the current Ruger .22 pistols are a bugger to deal with.
So you’re saying it’s just a function of repetition and familiarity?
