She negligenced someone to death. She deserves to be punished for it.
A grand jury will indict a ham sandwich, as the saying goes, but she won’t be convicted. She should tender her resignation, case closed.
I think resignation is a moot point. She'll probably be fired well before the trial.
The guy who got shot had prior felony convictions for drugs and for assaulting a police officer
He was obviously acting weird and not complying with police officers
He did seem to reaching into the SUV. If he had had a gun, the officers would not have had time to react if she had waited much longer
On the other hand, they had 4 officers on the ground and a helo in the air so there was no real downside to backing off and de escalating
Of course, if intoxicated, the guy could have run and killed other innocent drivers in a high speed chase

I'm leaning to a judgment of a grey area , technically justified, but morally unnecessary shooting.
In the bad old days, a couple of very large , politically incorrect cops would have taken the guy down before he reached his car and cuffed him. At worst he would have been roughed up a bit with a night stick which is way better than being dead.

It may be that the shot was accidental as a tazer was being fired... but his refusal to obey, coupled with his record AND his reaching is NOT the narrative the news is reporting.

Based on the picture of the car here it's clear that the car window was completely up. He couldn't have been reaching into the car.

well, presumably you are a lady freeper so I agree with you that there are physical differences that make women less capable than men in dangerous situations on America’s streets.
Once I stated to a cop friend (male) that all the cops you see around here, almost without exception, are pumped with large, muscular upper arms and forearms. Why? He said because if you are not in very good shape and very strong you will get your ass kicked sooner rather than later. I just don’t like seeing women get beat up.
I then said doesn’t it make sense not to put women out on the front lines? They can still be cops and are still useful but don’t have to duke it out with some guy they don’t have a chance against. He said..........”effectively, they already are”.
I’ll start out by saying I’m a cop, I wont list my credentials unless someone doubts my point of reference when I speak out. When I first saw the video I was afraid of what would happen to the Officer. Watching the video it was plain to see what occurred. Officer Shelby made a fatal error, she had her finger inside the trigger guard. When Crutcher went to enter the vehicle the Officer to her left fired a taser. Taser’s when they fire emit a “pop” then you hear the charge. Officer Shelby had a sympathetic response to the sound and moved her finger which was on the trigger of her gun, Crutcher paid for her mistake with his life and for that she will pay a heavy price. While I can’t speak for her agency, we train to only put our finger inside the trigger guard when we have decided to shoot. I’m sick in ways I can’t explain about what has occurred. Having said that, while I would risk my life to save Shelby had she called for back-up in my jurisdiction, the charge appears to me to be correct according to the facts that I’ve examined, and once more the system to this point has worked.

yeah... that looks like it’s completely up
Video I was referring to was the chopper’s view just before he was shot. It looked like he was reaching in through the top of the window... but he may have been reaching in his jacket. he was reaching somewhere, and he was up against the car. It was certainly clear he wasn’t obeying commands.

But after 10 minutes of pointing her gun at a suspect who was not cooperating, she saw another officer taser him and pulled the trigger by reflex.
I do not think she just decided to kill him, she had a good career from what it looks like. It seems to be a bad shoot, but accident DO HAPPEN.
I wish she would have said “I fired by accidental reflex action after 10 minutes of tense confrontation”
She could have gotten administrative leave and suspension from the force for a little while, possibly to another job.
BUT THE BOTTOM LINE REMAINS: IF HE HAD LISTENED TO THE OFFICERS HE WOULD STILL BE ALIVE
I think she was the wrong person in the wrong job in the wrong place. If she was alone it might be a different story.
Agreed, officers should be trained to deal with Stressful situations. Still, no amount of training can completely insulate you from reacting instantaneously to a perceived threat. But, yeah, better training maybe avoids this travesty or perhaps, better training costs you that split second which finds you dead.
