You put your finger on the crux of it. If you ignore a cop's orders, and/or resist arrest, you increase your chance of first, getting beaten up, and second, getting shot. Statistics prove that police shoot whites every bit as readily as blacks if they don't cooperate and are perceived as a threat.
If the victim was white this would have never gone to court. Acting stupid on PCP will get you dead.
