The essence of human freedom, of civilization itself, is cooperation: cooperation between friends and family; businesses and customers; entrepreneurs and employees.
History and human experience teach that humans cooperate best when they do so voluntarily, without government coercion. That is why I fully support the eventual transition of control over the internet from the Department of Commerce and to a private entity.
But I also worry that President Barack Obama is hastily rushing the current transfer of power to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which could make it easier for the United Nations to take over the internet.
Today, the internet is so vast and ubiquitous that it is hard to imagine it existing in any other form. But for the first few decades of the internets existence, the basic roadmap for navigating the internetthe Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), the system that allocates and records the unique numerical addresses to computerswas managed by just one man on a voluntary basis.

Taxes and censorship among other things.
Senators Lee and Cruz are a few men out in the fore front of this fight.
The September 30th deadline for 0bama's giveaway of America's control of the Internet looms.
Keep the heat on Congress, call your Congress critter today.

A precursor to giving something away is a demonstration of ownership.
Does the United States own the internet?
I don’t think we do.
As such, how is it ours to “give away?”
I started an ICANN ping list — only one person signed up so far and did so anonymously. I can’t bury the name.
So ... I guess Lee is too fringe as well as Senator Sessions and Grassley.

Obama Already Broke the Law reg. Internet Giveaway in mid August
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/3471342/posts
[And congress promises to re-legislate that law to ‘fix’ it.]
[is this congress being ‘filegated’ too?]
It will be interesting to see what kind of A-team Trump will assemble to tackle foreign ICANN facilities after this contract expires.
Bless you for finding and posting this.
FRegards ....
Don’t expect the Waffle House to actually do anything...
Well done!
It’s on the Editorial Sidebar.
Not this again. The internet is not owned or operated by any one government or organization. It is a network of networks. You have a phone? Your phone connects to network, ATT, Verizon, etc. They connect to each other then that connects to other networks then that connects to other countries and their networks. Internet is the same. Nothing goes through one big building somewhere.
“Does the United States own the internet? I dont think we do.”
Interesting you should say that. Obama broke the law by moving forward with the transition.
So ... how can that be possible if we don’t ‘own the internet’?
Did you know that the President has an internet ‘kill swtich’? He can just turn it off. It’s hub is based in the Pentagon. Been that way from the beginning.
ICANN is locked in a contract. Without congressional approval, the administration is required to renew it by September 30.
We have as much claim to the internet as we had to the Panama Canal.
We built it dammit!
Lol...
We have, for the past 8 years, been inundated with immorality and anti-Constitutional laws and edicts and it comes to the point where you feel overwhelmed and helpless to do anything about it.
That's how I feel.
‘The internet is not owned or operated by any one government or organization.’
ICANN is locked in a contract with the federal govenrment.
It’s job is to register domain names.
We have a legal claim to it.
If ICANN goes ‘international’ [and is planning to move overseas] then it can punish ‘hate speech’ [that plan they drafted in Sweden].
We have the legal authority to prevent that madness. But Obama is illegally initiating the transition.

ICANN Transition Even Endangers ‘.gov’ and ‘.mil’

ICANN transition insider Paul Rosenweig warns:
1. Foreign powers will “indisputably have increased influence”.
2. Transition a “leap in the dark”.
3. ICANN planning to move overseas.
4. ‘.gov’ and ‘.mil’ “not assured by any enforeable mechanism”.
Even the inventor, ManBearPig, should be aghast at giving away his invention.
Senator Grassley called this transition
“unconstitutional” ...

Some people think ‘Trump can fix it’.
I think a lot of Trump, but when ICANN is freed from this contract, many in ICANN [perhaps all for all I know] will fly off to other countries and network their domain name systems overseas. They will sign contracts with foreign governments, and then it’s going to be one heck of a mess.
ICANN is the Internet equivalent of a phonebook. They can be replaced by literally anyone. There are already many alternatives. ICANN is not the Internet, they are a service that people use to find sites on the Internet.
This was by Senator Mike Lee.
I hope you guys don’t mind pinging you.
