The House Oversight Committee is reviewing a Reddit post that alleges an IT specialist who worked on Hillary Clinton’s private server sought advice on how to alter the contents of “VERY VIP” emails, according to Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.).
Meadows is the chairman of the panel’s Government Operations subcommittee.
“The Reddit post issue and its connection to Paul Combetta is currently being reviewed by OGR staff and evaluations are being made as to the authenticity of the post,” Meadows told The Hill.
Reddit users appear to have uncovered a two-year-old post from an account believed to belong to Combetta, an engineer with Platte River Networks. The Denver, Colo.-based firm managed Clinton’s private server.
The post, which has been deleted but can be read in images archived by Reddit users, coincides with the discovery of Clinton’s use of the server.
“I may be facing a very interesting situation where I need to strip out a VIP’s (VERY VIP) email address from a bunch of archived email… Basically, they don’t want the VIP’s email address exposed to anyone, and want to be able to either strip out or replace the email address in the to/from fields in all of the emails we want to send out,” reads the post, by a user called "stonetear."
“Does anyone have experience with something like this, and/or suggestions on how this might be accomplished?”
Combetta is currently one of the targets of a broader Oversight investigation on whether Clinton ordered the destruction of emails that had been subpoenaed by the Benghazi Select Committee.

This actually isn’t “simple IT” work, in fact just the opposite. What he’s seeking is something that isn’t known to exist today yet wants someone with knowl she how to hack it to provide a solution. It isn’t simple because if it were there’d be hellish litigation to lock it down. Email communication as you know it would never again be allowed to enter into evidence in a courtroom
The trump subreddit/4-chan/alt right people are what Freepers were like 15 years ago, back when we busted Dan Rather. Sifting through emails, busting Hillary and her IT guy while we just post news items and chat.
Deleting the post from view is not the same as destroying it. Reddit probably still has an archive. Strange that a supposed IT guy doesn’t know how to do this, and doesn’t have private resources to help. Makes me think it is not a real post, but the timing of it coming just a day after the subpoena would mean if it is not a Clinton resource, someone very inside was painting a frame on someone.

I don’t know... I work with a lot of young IT people (less that 5-8 years on the job), and most don’t have a clue on how to troubleshoot problems, search the internet for clues and solutions, or how to read and search vendor documentation. Nor do most have much intellectual curiosity to try and devise a solution by “out-of-the-box” thinking if they cannot find a canned solution to their exact problem.
It is a shame that a lot of these people cannot do the simplest thing with out step-by-step instructions. But, it keeps old, experienced people like me gainfully employed...

Glad to hear you can profit from their lazy ineptitude. I am not an IT guy but can think of a couple different ways to do this using word processing or spreadsheet software. But aren’t there already specialized software in place for doing exactly this? I gotta believe that the litigation industry already has software designed to strip out email addresses from an outlook file without even having to opening it up. The numbers of document demands in lawsuits each year has got to be dizzyingly high, so too the need to redact names or other trade secret info quickly to comply with subpoenas. I suppose I could google it to find out lol but if none exists, there is a business idea for you :-)
I pray that you’re right...but never forget that clintons cheat better than most.
