Interestingly, the first ones they sent were darker skinned Somalis from the south of Somalia, mostly animist and Christian. These guys got news stories about how they walked 3-4 miles one way to work during the Minnesota winters.

Then, the ELCA started sponsoring those from the Muslim majority central and north of Somalia in droves. The ELCA wasn't the only reason they picked Minnesota. They found Minnesota and Maine had the most generous state welfare programs in America. Just short of a quarter century later, both states are full of them.

Think about it. Somalia has the climate of California, the population density of Kansas and over 2000 miles of coastline astride one of the busiest trade routes in the world. If the Jews or the Chinese were in charge of a location like that, they'd be one of the wealthiest countries in Africa.
