Leftism has been on life support for fifty years. The Republican landslide in the 1966 midterm election was recognized by everyone at the time as a massive rejection of the agenda and the politics of the left.

The reasons were clear. The War on Poverty produced race riots and idiocies like "Welfare Strikes." Having achieved civil rights, militant blacks were now demanding "Black Power." Affirmative action was so clearly discrimination that there were few serious minds who could coherently defend this vile incarnation of state-mandated bigotry.

The left's approach to foreign threats was precisely as it is today: put in our brave men in harm's way with no discernible purpose other than to make Washington bosses look good; reject waging war to win and instead muddle from failure to failure hoping not to win or to lose; reduce defense spending so that in any future conflict, instead of spending treasure, we would spend blood.

Beginning in 1968, Democrats began calling themselves "Progressives" and scrupulously avoided the term "Liberal." As I have noted often, self-defined "conservatives" dramatically outnumber self-defined "liberals," but less known is that even in the aftermath of Goldwater's defeat, when smug leftists insisted that conservatism was dead, ordinary Americans called themselves "conservative" by a two-to-one margin over "liberal."

The left was sustained not by the quality of its politicians. Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Hillary Clinton are such dull minds and slow wits that the worst Republican nominee in the last five decades looks brilliant and wise by comparison.

I agree with the author that the leftist philosophy and their leaders are bankrupt.

However, leftism is not "imploding." It is expanding, and conquering.

"Leftism" is just another term for secular godless rebellion against the one true God.

Things are getting worse and worse. The Bible says that "...evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived." (2 Timothy 3:13)

The left is supported and empowered by Satan. Just as during the Tribulation, the whole world will "wonder after the Beast", so today we have vast stretches of humanity who are completely and utterly deceived. Their hearts are black, and their consciousness's are seared.

My hope is not in politics any longer. Politics and politicians have completely failed us. Who today believes that Paul Ryan or Mitch McConnell are our saviors? Who believes that a Republican House and Senate have taken one step to halt Obama and the vast evil he and the Democrats have unleashed?

My hope is in Christ alone.

Man on the street 95% of the time couldn’t tell you our form of govt, or the 3 branches of govt. Let alone the (R), being the small govt types that they say they are, recently gave us the DHS, NSA, TSA and the largest expansion of Medi-X in recent history (can’t forget the open checkbook for Zero too).

They are neither "liberal" nor "progressive" ... and it's almost an insult to true liberals and progressives that they've co-opted these phrases for their own political gain. I wish what this writer says were true, but he never mentions the most critical factor of all. The Dims have been importing new voters by the millions for decades, no matter how much of the established US population might have rejected their leftist ideas.

Dims receive 70%+ of the minority vote and an even higher percentage from recent immigrants. That’s the only reason the Dims can still win a national election, and it’s why their immigration policy is come one, come all, legally or illegally.

And it’s worked for them. If the established US population, and that includes all ethnic groups, doesn’t come to it’s senses soon, the Dims will have imported majority support for the foreseeable future. And that won’t be good for any group in the long run.

The Left cannot be defunded without massive and total deconstruction of the Agencies and total separation of government from education and medicine. The Permanent Government-EPA, DOE, DOE, HUD, FEC, SEC, ET is the left. A congress might reduce their funding-fat chance- but will not kill the monster. So long as it lives it is progressing to total domination of the nation and society.
