Police officers at Brown University are no longer including the race of criminal suspects when announcing crimes, after an outcry from Brown students who said the practice stigmatized certain groups.
The policy was first implemented a year ago, but was only publicized Wednesday by The Brown Daily Herald. Including a suspects race is often harmful because vague descriptions can reinforce stereotypes, causing hostility towards some community members, according to police chief Mark Porter.
To solve the problem, Brown police are making the descriptions even vaguer, including only the suspects age, sex, build, and general appearance (sans skin color).
The shift fulfills a demand from some Brown students who called for it while the school was hammering out its $165 million Pathways to Diversity and Inclusion action plan.

If you see something, say something, and be kicked off of campus for being all judgey.
Suspect? Hasn't that been replaced by "person of interest"? Can't say "suspect" anymore.
We are living in the Age of Insanity.
Young black men: 3% of the population. 50% of the murder.
Then don’t report the sex of the rapists either, it impugns all men “as potential rapists”, a hate meme from the radical leftist feminazi brigade.
This will help reduce college rapes, how?
Can you tell me if he had a blackjack?
Well we KNOW to be suspicious of any SUV, they are all potential killers.
“Sex”? Don’t they mean Gender Identity?
One unintended consequence of affirmative action was that all black students are seen as getting in because of their skin even if some of them are actual scholars.
This will have the same kind of effect. All suspects will now be considered black even if some of them are actually white.
Police chief Mark Porter is correct, vague descriptions can reinforce stereotypes, and the practice stigmatized certain groups. I wonder who these certain groups could be. Apparently they are not worried about stigmatizing age groups, or sex, or build. As a male I feel stigmatized. I must now go to my safe space.
Okay, don’t mention their sex, gender, whatever’s, height, weight, clothing, or length of bar!.......if you’re gonna be stupid, might as well be consistently stupid!...
if you're an obese rapist, and they call you fat, isn't that just so offensive?...and worse yet, to be called a "man".....the horrors...
As long as they want to make it difficult if not impossible to catch people... they might as well just turn it into a game....Every time they are hunting a suspect a policeman should go on live tv and radio and start the search with ....
“I spy, with my little eye” etc....
Of course they will need to check with the suspect to make sure they are using the proper pronouns.
How do they know which sex the person self identifies as?
Just disband the police department. That way no one is offended by accusations of criminal behavior.
Mark my words, next it will be only gender neutral descriptions. “The person, the human being, the living organism, etc...” Our education has become indoctrination.
Next, the perp’s gender, height, and age won’t be allowed either, as of course that TOO stigmatizes certain groups.
I guess they’ll still be allowed to report that the perp was probably a human and was dressed in clothing.
