New York (CNN)Hillary Clinton expressed "regret" Saturday for comments in which she said "half" of Donald Trump's supporters are "deplorables," meaning people who are racist, sexist, homophobic or xenophobic.
"Last night I was 'grossly generalistic,' and that's never a good idea. I regret saying 'half' -- that was wrong," Clinton said in a statement in which she also vowed to call out "bigotry" in Trump's campaign.
The Democratic presidential nominee sparked an uproar late Friday when she described Trump's supporters at a fundraiser. "To just be grossly generalistic, you can put half of Trump supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables," Clinton said. "Right? Racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it."
She added, "And unfortunately, there are people like that and he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people, now have 11 million. He tweets and retweets offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric."
Clinton then said some of these people were "irredeemable" and "not America."

Since she said it at a private fundraiser I tend to think that it was not intended to go public.
They recently chased her out of her hidey-hole due to sagging polls. Bad Idea.
So she apologized for calling me deplorable? But, but...I like being deplorable. And irredeemable. It’s cool, man.

That she is an old time bigot is right. I have learned that when a rabid liberal engages in this kind of generalized hate speech against an entire group of people (usually conservatives or Repugs), I immediately tell them to their face that is a bigoted statement and they are bigots. Almost always they experience abject horror on their face and they immediately try to deny and then make some half-ass apology like Hitlery did that is nothing more then trying to prove how superior they are.
To that I just say “I don’t except your apology because it is not sincere if you think you are better then someone else. The only way it is sincere is if you “repent” and that means changing your life to accept these people you just insulted. You may not agree with them, but you have to accept them as your equal. Otherwise you are nothing but a bigot.” Then I usually just walk away and let them think about it because there is usually nothing to be gained by pushing the argument further as it just turns into a shouting match.
I don’t ever expect them to change. But at least they may try to keep their opinions to themselves or be more careful in the future to not be so insulting.
PS - learned this by being married to a very liberal wife for 21 years and living in California and surviving with lots of liberal friends. Basically, I accept them as they are, and only demand they accept me as I am. Usually we avoid politics to keep things civil and friendly, but when I feel insulted, I let them know it.
It’s really no different than the manner in which psychiatry was practiced in the USSR. The state was always right about everything, hence anybody who dissented with the state was disconnected from reality and needed to be locked away.
Clinton slathered praise all over Grand Wizard Byrd.
Hillary makes fun of patriotic Americans; Bill makes fun of working Americans. They can insult with impunity because the media will cover for them.
High-quality video and sound broadcast in the segment. Quite suitable for Trump ads. This was nothing like the recording of the Romney 47% comment which was made on a cell phone aimed at the back of a chair.
She said the same thing on an Israeli TV interview before that. And she chuckled. No, she was not the least bit embarrassed. She's probably wondering what all the fuss is about.
Everyone she knows is certain that ALL Trump supporters are racist-sexist-homophobes, poor-uneducated-white-people, OR both. (I have significantly more formal education than Mrs. Clinton and probably most everyone she talks to in her day-to-day life.)

The private fundraiser was Hollywood actors. They laughed when she said Trump supporters are deplorable. What if we said the Hollywood actors giving her money are deplorable?

She said in on Israel TV Chanel 2 earlier in the week. Watch and listen to the entire 20 minute interview. Very eye evening. Her comment was scripted and it backfired.
