A new CNN poll shows Republican Donald Trump has closed an 11-point gap with Democrat Hillary Clinton and leads her nationally in the race for the White House by two points.
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton start the race to November 8 on essentially even ground, with Trump edging Clinton by a scant two points among likely voters, and the contest sparking sharp divisions along demographic lines in a new CNN/ORC Poll.
Trump tops Clinton 45% to 43% in the new survey, with Libertarian Gary Johnson standing at 7% among likely voters in this poll and the Green Party's Jill Stein at just 2%.Among those likely to turn out in the fall, both candidates have secured about the same share of their own partisans (92% of Democrats back Clinton, 90% of Republicans are behind Trump) but independents give Trump an edge, 49% say they'd vote for him while just 29% of independent voters back Clinton.
Here's a key point from Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway.
More @CNN #poll: Trump up 20% among Independents; has 90% of Republicans. His voters more excited than hers (OK, that's not breaking news)— Kellyanne Conway (@KellyannePolls) September 6, 2016
And he has this going for him:
A majority of Clinton's supporters say they're less excited about voting this year than usual (55%) while most of Trump's backers say they're more excited this time around (56%).
Trump is leading Clinton on the issues of the economy and terrorism, while Clinton beats him out on foreign policy and immigration. He also leads Clinton on trustworthiness 50 percent to 35 percent.
It's clear the recent campaign shakeup, Trump's trip to Mexico last week and Hillary Clinton's ongoing email scandal and Clinton Foundation woes are having a significant impact.
Focus and discipline!
ABC and CNN have done the best reporting of any MSM on her scandals lately so if they hold for another week or so the other networks cannot be far behind.
A report out today from the emails says Clinton and the DNC cooked the questions to be asked her during the 2013 Benghazi hearings. She knew the softball questions coming from the democrats on the panel because she had already told them what to ask her. That’ll be big news before the day’s out. On Fox I mean, the rest of the networks will ignore it, Trump will certainly bring it up.
If Trump has such a gigantic advantage with Independent voters I don’t get how he is only up 2 pts. in the poll overall.
Anyway, seems like the election is his to win going away. The Mediascum will pull out all the stops for Shrillarity, but Trump is in the driver’s seat.
yeah, and with Trump showing such a huge lead in their independent numbers, why is he not up more than 2 pts in the overall poll?
I don’t doubt it that he is.
I have read that a lot of the independants are not showing up in polls because they have not voted recently. They get filtered out of the "likely voter" polls.
Obama won twice because he managed to gin-up a HUGE turnout amongst the Gibmedats, the Julias and the Racial Grievance Crowd.
NONE of those people seem too excited to drag themselves off the couch and go out to vote for Hillary. Based on those dynamics I rather suspect Romney could have beaten her with his numbers among Independents.
CNN Headline News: Clinton Blows Double
As everyone knows, or should know, choosing a good representative sample is the key to accurate polling. Clearly, the pollsters have been skewing the polls in favor of Hillary. Eventually, they must change to get a more accurate poll or they lose credibility and more importantly money if they produce polls that are far from being accurate.
bump to the top
This is CNN, so who knows what’s real. It could be they want to show Trump ahead just so Clinton can have a big boost in their polls after the debates.
I doubt very much that the media would conspire to artificially put Trump ahead just so that they can concoct a "comeback" narrative. Too risky. A much better strategy would be to keep Trump constantly behind and hope to eventually wear down and demoralize those who are supporting him. However, they can only do this if Crooked Hillary was truly ahead. And she's obviously not - and losing ground.
CNN has Trump ahead by 2, so he is probably really ahead by 5-10.
Two thoughts:
1. Trump must win with a margin sufficient to overcome voter fraud by the RATS. And they are experts at it. Lots and lots of experience.
2. Look at the tagline. That right there is the most important reason, IMHO, why Trump must win. Literally the future of our country depends on it.
Upper middle class couples want cheap nannies/maids/gardeners.
That is why organziations such as True The Vote will be very busy.
That will change once Trump gets elected.
And you have to love those flashy designer clothes she wears. Rush just characterized them, approximately, as “Captain Kangaroo house coats”. That summarizes it perfectly. I also like the “oven mitt outfit” description I read somewhere.
