Kaepernick jersey sales soar to #1 after anthem controversy
Despite the outrage on your Facebook feed, it seems Colin Kaepernick's decision not to stand during the national anthem has proven a popular one.
As noted by former Mercury News reporter Mike Rosenberg, Kap's jersey has almost overnight gone from the 20th-most popular shirt in the 49ers store to the No. 1 pick.
Or maybe all those people are buying his jersey so they can burn them in a counter-protest. Hard to say.
At any rate, the NFL will be happy to profit from this controversy. Kaepernick jerseys were on clearance at the end of last season, and now they're back at full-price: $99.99.
Kap will be addressing the congregation at San Francisco's Third Baptist Church on Sunday morning. You can watch a live stream of that here.
“Some may be buying them in anticipation of the price going up and selling them on eBay.”
If that is the case, eBay is going to be flooded with Kaepernick jerseys and the price will drop.
There’s a Baptist church in San Fran? Who knew. Why would a Baptist church anywhere allow him a platform?
Not true as of 12:00 PM cdt
First thought that came to my mind too!
Its California. What can you expect?
It makes me wonder if our popular culture is at the point that it doesn’t make much difference who wins this years elections.
I like the idea of the unassimilated trash wearing uniforms for easy identification; remember the “X” hats years ago? They sew on their own scarlet letters...
In other news, sales of toilet paper and kindling have declined in direct proportion.
I would tend to think the controversy and the free publicity that goes with it makes NFL ratings go up. The NFL is the most popular pro-sport because of the huge number of casual fans that watch. I bet most casual fans don’t care about the anthem enough not to watch.
FReegards
If the Confed flag is a symbol of hate then this guy’s jersey is, too.
Soros will buy them up for his army of unemployed angry black men...
It has to be something like that. No real NFL fan would be a 2nd string jersey at that price just to make a political statement.
At the next 49ers game, see how many people are actually WEARING them. That will give you a better indication.
I suspect very few. Sad truth is this isn't the same country it was 30 years ago.
Ahem, buying them to burn them, not wear them.
Don’t give them any of your money until they decide what nation they are the National Football League of.
Well, I have just demanded my money for season ticket back from the 49ers..... I will protest just like Colin Kap...except they ant getting anymore of my cash....matter of fact I going bowling....
All Baptist churches aren’t the same. If it were Southern Baptist, I’d be very surprised. And concerned.
From the story one might glean that this is only at the “49ers store” and not nationwide?
I blame the Amish.
