I think couple over-reacted to move out in ONE DAY...Millennials from the collar counties are flocking to the City for the nightlife and easy commutes as Chicago is where many of them work at hospitals, law firms, financial institutions such as CBOT and trading firms, etc. or go to school at institutions like CHicago, Loyola (a good school btw), UIC, John Marshall or even Northwestern—tho that is farther north. Some are taking cullinary programs at the Art Institute and Kellog as Chicago has world class restaurants—look up Oriole...one of best in world. I know these kids and their parents.
These 2 from Arizona are very young and seems they did much of their relocation research over the internet...not how to play the game in third largest city in US...
I suspect they oozed of newbie and some creep was capitalizing on that. Have to be careful anywhere in the City—some areas more than others...there are assaults, and thefts (probably related), but it is not notorious area to my knowledge.
As they stated there were lots of people around~they likely were perceived as easy mark by homeless or crazy person...Gang members by definition run in groups...if even 2...this guy was alone.
Interesting that they were very deliberate in not giving any details—age, race, etc.

Should add that the young couple made a lot of mistakes—if you are going to live in big city, certain things you just don’t do...like engaging crazies—don’t make eye contact, don’t talk to them or argue with them or question them, like not having pepper spray, like not having decent charge on cell phone, like immediately returning to your apartment so crazies know your car and address, etc...
Sorry he got clocked, although he really was lucky that is all that happened all things considered...
You don’t engage those folks...move away and move towards group of other people...all kinds of people around, yet the crazy chose them...
